Teams we have built software for
Alabama businesses get a written price after one free call, a first release in about 7 weeks, and an app that already handles the 2027 age-check and privacy rules instead of paying to retrofit them.
We are a 16-person in-house engineering team in San Francisco working with 30+ remote specialists, and we have built software for Spirit Airlines, Citi and the Miami Dolphins. Alabama is on Central time, two hours ahead of us, so nearly your whole afternoon overlaps our working day.

What Alabama businesses get from our custom software development team
Two new Alabama laws change how apps get built. From January 1, 2027, the App Store Accountability Act has app stores pass each user's age category to developers, and developers must check it, and parental consent, before serving minors. From May 1, 2027, the Alabama Personal Data Protection Act covers businesses handling data on more than 25,000 consumers, with an exemption for those under 500 employees that do not sell data. We tell you on the free call which of these apply to you, and build the age checks, consent and data controls into the first release.
Most of what we build for Alabama clients sits inside operations. For contractors, we build internal tools for proposals, staffing and certification records. For plant suppliers, we build tablet apps for quality checks and customer portals for your OEM buyers. Our Wingman Pilot build tracks pilot certifications, and platform-booked flights have had zero currency or certification lapses. See the price range on our pricing page or try the app cost estimator before the call.
How to hire an app developer in Alabama: 5 things to settle first
- Will minors download your app?
Under the App Store Accountability Act, from January 1, 2027 you must check the age category and parental consent the app store passes you before serving minors. Decide now whether your app is for adults only or needs that flow.
- Does the 2027 privacy act cover you?
The Alabama Personal Data Protection Act starts May 1, 2027 for businesses with data on 25,000+ consumers or over 25% of revenue from selling data. Companies under 500 employees that do not sell data are exempt.
- How fast must you report a data breach in Alabama?
Ala. Code 8-38-5 gives you 45 days to notify affected people. Access logs in the first release let you answer quickly.
- Is the software you buy or sell taxable in Alabama?
Alabama treats software as taxable property, while separately stated custom programming is not, and remote-access software is not clearly addressed. Ask your accountant before you sign, and we will itemize the quote to help.
- Will the app hold federal contract data?
If the app will hold controlled information for a defense contract, the prime's security rules decide hosting and access. We tell you on the first call whether that work fits our team.
Which Alabama laws change how your app is built?
The Alabama rules we design consent screens, data retention and breach logging around. A planning summary, not legal advice.
| Rule | What it means for the build |
|---|---|
| Consumer privacy law | Alabama Personal Data Protection Act (HB 351 (2026 Reg. Sess.), Act 2026-552; Code of Alabama section not yet assigned), in effect from 2027-05-01. Applies to: Conducts business in AL or targets AL residents AND (controls/processes personal data of >25,000 consumers, excluding data processed solely to complete a payment transaction; OR derives >25% of gross revenue from sale of personal data). Exempts businesses with <500 employees that do not sell personal data, and nonprofits with <100 employees that do not sell personal data. Plan for access, deletion and opt-out requests in the admin panel. |
| Data breach notification | Ala. Code § 8-38-1 et seq. (notice: § 8-38-5): notice deadline 45 days. We build audit logs that show what data was touched, so notice can be accurate and on time. |
| App Store Accountability Act (HB 161, 2026) | App stores must collect age category at account creation (existing accounts by 2027-10-01) and share it with developers; developers must verify age category and parental consent through the app store before serving minors. (effective 2027-01-01) |
| Time zone | Central. Our team works from San Francisco (Pacific), with remote specialists covering other hours, so Alabama working hours overlap with ours every weekday. |

Alpit PatelFounder and CEOEngineering is led by co-founder and CTO Shivam Pujara.Software development company in Alabama: questions people ask
How much does it cost to build an app in Alabama?
We price most apps and web apps at $7,000 to around $25,000 to $30,000. A first version with a few screens and one type of user sits near the bottom; payments, several roles, age checks and integrations push it higher. The price is the same in Alabama as anywhere. You get it in writing after a free 30-minute call.
How long does it take to build an app for an Alabama company?
Count the 44 builds we publish and the first release lands between week 5 and week 10, usually around week 7. Our Wingman Pilot and GoHangars aviation marketplaces each took 7 weeks. Apps that read from an ERP, machine data or a supplier system take longer, because integration work, not screens, sets the timeline.
What does Alabama's App Store Accountability Act mean for my app?
From January 1, 2027, app stores must collect each user's age category and share it with developers. As the developer, you must verify that age category, and parental consent where needed, through the app store before serving minors. If your app is for adults only, say so in the scope; if not, we build the check into sign-up.
Does the Alabama Personal Data Protection Act apply to my business?
It takes effect May 1, 2027 and covers businesses that process personal data on more than 25,000 consumers, not counting payment-only data, or earn over a quarter of revenue from selling data. Businesses with fewer than 500 employees that do not sell personal data are exempt, which covers many Alabama companies we build for.
Can you build software for Huntsville defense and aerospace contractors?
We build the commercial and internal software these firms run on: proposal and contract trackers, staffing and certification records, dashboards and portals for prime contractors. Systems that handle classified information or need a specific federal authorization are a different kind of project, so we raise that on the free call and tell you plainly whether we can take it.
Can a San Francisco developer work with an Alabama business?
Yes. Alabama runs on Central time, two hours ahead of us, so a 1 p.m. call in Birmingham is 11 a.m. for our engineers and most of your afternoon overlaps. We have no Alabama office. You get a weekly demo on a video call and a test build you can try on your own phone.
How do I choose a software development company in Alabama?
Ask for published builds with client names and results, and ask who actually writes the code. Get the scope and price in writing, and confirm the code and accounts will be yours. With two new state laws arriving in 2027, also ask how the developer will handle age checks and consent, and get that answer in the scope.
Can I build an app with no coding experience?
Yes, for a simple first version. AI builders such as Lovable, Replit and ChatGPT can turn a plain description into a working prototype, which is a fair way to test an idea. The hard parts come next: logins for several roles, payments, integrations, security and App Store release. When the app has to run a business, we build it with you for $7k to $30k, and you still own the code.
Do I need an NDA before talking to an app developer?
You do not need one for a first call, because a useful call covers goals, users and risks, not trade secrets. If your idea or data is sensitive, ask for one: we sign an NDA on request before you share the details. The contract matters more than the NDA. With us, the code, hosting and app store accounts are in your name from the first commit.
