GoHangars: a nationwide marketplace for aircraft hangar space

GoHangars connects aircraft owners with hangar operators across the US. We built its two-sided marketplace, with listings searchable by airport identifier and filtered against each aircraft's dimensions. It reached 1,240 listings across 38 states in six months, lifted operator occupancy from 61% to 83% and booked $2.1M in year one. The MVP shipped 7 weeks after the first call.

The challenge

Aircraft owners had trouble finding open hangar space because listings were scattered and there was no central way to book. Facility operators, for their part, could not keep their storage reliably filled.

The founder ran an FBO for eleven years before starting GoHangars. He came to us with a spreadsheet of 300 hangar operators he had called himself, with door dimensions and monthly rates typed in by hand. He made it to find a home for his own aircraft, and other owners kept asking to use it.

Finding hangar space in the US still works much as it did in 1985. You ring the airport, get through to the FBO, and they either tell you what is free or never answer. Owners park six-figure aircraft wherever someone picked up the phone, while operators leave bays empty for months with nothing but a sign at the gate to advertise them.

He had tried to get the product built twice. A designer delivered a Figma file he liked, and two offshore teams took deposits and produced nothing usable. He did not want to lose another six months learning that lesson again, so we agreed a seven-week scope to a launchable marketplace with real listings in it, not a prototype.

What we built

We built a nationwide hangar marketplace that brings availability into one place, makes booking simple and helps operators fill their space. Owners can find and secure a bay that fits their aircraft, and operators get a steady channel for vacancies.

Two-sided onboarding

Aircraft owners and facility operators each get their own onboarding flow.

Fit-focused listings

Listings record what decides whether an aircraft fits: door width and height, usable depth, power, heated or unheated, and shared or private bay.

Search by airport identifier

Owners search by airport code, so typing KAPA shows what is open at Centennial. A map view and radius expansion help when nothing nearby is free.

Aircraft dimension filtering

Owner profiles store wingspan, tail height and length, and listings filter against them automatically, so nobody books a bay their aircraft cannot physically enter.

Flexible availability calendar

The calendar supports monthly, annual and transient stays.

Stripe Connect payments and verification

Payments run through Stripe Connect with automatic operator payouts and platform fees. Insurance certificates are uploaded and verified before each booking is confirmed, operators get an occupancy dashboard, and in-platform messaging keeps enquiries attached to the listing.

Screens and design system

The result

GoHangars closed a seed round nine months after launch on the strength of listing growth and repeat booking rate, not a pitch deck. The founder hired two people, one for operator supply and one for support, and stopped doing both jobs himself.

The spreadsheet has been retired. Supply now grows without the founder calling anyone, because operators find the platform and list themselves, the part he was least sure would happen. Transient bookings, an afterthought at launch, turned out to be a third of volume. Maintenance and avionics providers are next, on the same booking and payout infrastructure.

Questions about this hangar storage marketplace build

How long does it take to build a hangar storage marketplace MVP?

The GoHangars MVP shipped 7 weeks after the first call, as a launchable marketplace with real listings rather than a prototype. It reached 1,240 hangar listings across 38 states in its first six months and registered 480 aircraft owners within 90 days of launch.

How does a hangar marketplace make sure an aircraft fits the space?

On GoHangars, listings capture door width and height, usable depth, power, heating and bay type. Owner profiles store wingspan, tail height and length, and listings are filtered against those dimensions automatically, so an owner cannot book a bay their aircraft cannot physically enter.

Can an online marketplace raise hangar occupancy for operators?

For GoHangars operators it did. Occupancy rose from 61% to 83% across facilities active for a full year, and the platform booked $2.1M in year one. Owners went from about three weeks of phone calls to same-day booking, and transient stays turned out to be a third of volume.
