How to Delete a GoHighLevel Sub-Account: Steps, 24-Hour Undo and Checklist

Quick answer

In Agency View, open Sub-Accounts, click the three dots, choose Manage Client, then Actions and Delete, and accept three disclaimers. HighLevel gives you 24 hours to undo from a banner on the Sub-Accounts page. After that the deletion is permanent, including contacts, messages, campaigns, settings, LC Phone numbers and A2P campaigns.

Key takeaways

  • Path: Agency View > Sub-Accounts > three dots > Manage Client > Actions (top right) > Delete, then acknowledge the disclaimers.
  • You get 24 hours to undo with the Click here to undo link on the Sub-Accounts page. After that, HighLevel says deletion is permanent and irreversible.
  • Deletion removes contacts, messages, campaigns and settings. It also deletes the sub-account's LC Phone numbers and A2P campaigns, which cannot be retrieved.
  • Disconnect Twilio, Mailgun, Facebook, Google and other integrations first. HighLevel says connected ones stop working immediately.
  • If you may need the account again, pause it instead. HighLevel says a paused sub-account is not charged. Deleting your whole agency account is a different process: cancellation.

To delete a GoHighLevel sub-account, go to Agency View > Sub-Accounts, open the three-dot menu on the account, choose Manage Client, click Actions > Delete, and acknowledge the disclaimers. HighLevel gives you 24 hours to undo. After that the account and its data are gone for good. This page gives the exact steps, a checklist to run first, and what to use instead if you only want to stop a client temporarily.

Checked on October 15, 2026 against HighLevel’s delete, pause and resume, roles and permissions, billing FAQ, contact export, snapshot and phone-restore articles. None of them shows a revision date today, so the screens may have moved. If your account looks different, stop and ask HighLevel support before you confirm.

How do you delete a sub-account in GoHighLevel?

These steps follow HighLevel’s delete a sub-account article. Run the checklist in the next section first.

  1. In Agency View, click Sub-Accounts in the left menu and find the sub-account you want to delete.
  2. Click the three-dot menu next to it and click Manage Client.
  3. Click Actions at the top right of the Sub-Accounts section and choose Delete.
  4. Read the disclaimers and acknowledge them. HighLevel shows these three:
    • “I confirm that I have discussed this with my client and have the authority to take this action.”
    • “I understand that this action is irreversible & all data inside this sub-account will be lost.”
    • “I confirm to disconnect and close the LC Phone account for this location. I am aware that this would mean all the numbers and A2P Campaigns will be deleted and cannot be retrieved back.”
  5. Confirm. A notification with a Click here to undo link appears on the Sub-Accounts page.
  6. To keep the deletion, do nothing. If you take no action within 24 hours, the sub-account is permanently deleted.

To confirm it worked, return to Sub-Accounts after the 24 hours pass and check that the account is gone from the list. Then open Agency Settings > Billing and check that the charges you expect to stop have stopped.

To undo it, click the Click here to undo link on the Sub-Accounts page inside the 24-hour window. HighLevel says nothing about recovery after that.

Who is allowed to delete a sub-account?

Deletion happens from Agency View, so it is an agency-level action. Whether a given agency user can do it is a separate permission. HighLevel’s agency roles and permissions article says creating or deleting a sub-account “is controlled separately from permissions that govern what a user can do inside an existing sub-account.”

To check a user: Agency View > Settings > Users, edit the user, open Roles & Permissions, find the Sub-Accounts agency module and look at the Delete option. If it is cleared, that user cannot delete sub-accounts. Our guide to GoHighLevel user roles and permissions covers the wider setup. Removing Delete from junior staff is a cheap safeguard, because the action is permanent.

What gets deleted, and can it be reversed?

HighLevel is direct. After 24 hours “all contacts, messages, campaigns, and settings will be lost,” and the deletion is “permanent and irreversible.” What that means in practice:

Item What happens
Contacts, conversations, campaigns, settings Lost after 24 hours
LC Phone numbers and A2P campaigns Deleted. HighLevel says they cannot be retrieved back
Connected integrations (Twilio, Mailgun, Facebook, Google and others) Stop working immediately if left connected. Disconnect them first
Client Portal tied to the sub-account Does not open once the sub-account is deleted
The deletion itself Reversible for 24 hours through the undo link, then permanent

The article does not mention a snapshot or a backup. HighLevel describes a snapshot as a template of configuration such as workflows, funnels, calendars, forms, campaigns and custom fields. Its article does not list contact records, so do not rely on a snapshot to save your CRM data. Export the contacts separately.

What should you do before deleting? A pre-delete checklist

Item What to do Where Why
Contacts Export to CSV and store it safely Contacts > Smart Lists > select contacts > More > Export, then download from Contacts > Bulk Actions Gone after 24 hours. Exports are admin-only, are available for 30 days and omit automation history such as past email and SMS logs
Configuration Create a snapshot if you may rebuild Agency View > Account Snapshots > + Create New Snapshot, choose the sub-account and assets Captures configuration: workflows, funnels, calendars, forms, campaigns, custom fields. Contact records are not listed
Phone numbers Decide whether to keep any number. Move it, do not delete it first LC Phone number settings, and HighLevel’s article on moving numbers across accounts Disclaimers say numbers and A2P campaigns are deleted and cannot be retrieved
A2P registration Know that the campaigns go with the account The sub-account’s phone and A2P settings Re-registration means a fresh approval wait. See how long A2P approval takes
Integrations Disconnect Twilio, Mailgun, Facebook, Google and others The sub-account’s integration settings HighLevel says leftover connections stop working immediately
Domains Write down which domains, funnels and sites use the account, and repoint or release them Sub-account settings The delete article does not cover domains. Plan the DNS change yourself
Wallet balance Check the balance and ask HighLevel support how it is handled Wallet and Agency Settings > Billing The delete article does not say what happens to wallet funds. Do not assume a refund
Client sign-off Get the client’s agreement in writing Your records The first disclaimer says you have discussed it with the client and have authority
Client Portal Tell the client it will stop opening Client messaging HighLevel says the portal does not open after deletion

A full step-by-step export is in how to export contacts from GoHighLevel. A snapshot is a rebuild aid, not a backup, and our snapshots guide explains what a snapshot carries. If a number matters to the client, our FAQ on keeping your business number covers porting.

Should you delete, pause, cancel or downgrade?

Goal Action Reversible? Source
Remove one client for good Sub-account Delete 24 hours, then no Delete article
Stop one client for now, keep data Sub-account Pause Yes, an agency admin can resume Pause and resume article
End GoHighLevel entirely Agency Cancel Plan Data is kept 90 days, then deleted. See the cancellation guides Billing FAQ

Pausing one sub-account. HighLevel’s pause and resume article says this is available to Agency Admins. Go to Sub-Accounts, click the name or the three dots then Manage Client, then Actions > Pause Sub-Account, tick the confirmation box and click Pause Sub Account. A banner shows the pause. All workflows are set to draft, and the client may need to republish them after you resume. Per the article, the rest of the account keeps working, and clients see a screen asking them to contact the agency. The delete article adds that paused accounts are not charged. To resume, go to Sub-Accounts > the paused account > Manage Client > Actions > Resume Sub-account, tick the box and click Resume Sub Account.

Deleting your whole agency account. That is cancellation, a different flow with different timers: phone numbers and A2P registrations are deleted after 14 days and data after 90. Do not use sub-account deletion for it. Follow how to cancel GoHighLevel and get a refund, then read what happens to your data when you cancel.

Downgrading instead. HighLevel’s billing FAQ says to review the lower plan’s features and sub-account limits first. Then go to Agency Settings > Billing, click Want to Modify/Cancel Your Subscription?, select a lower plan, review the price, effective date and any prorated adjustment, and confirm. HighLevel warns that downgrading does not automatically cancel add-ons, Marketplace apps, phone numbers or other paid services. Our pricing explainer covers the plan tiers, and how to lower your GoHighLevel bill covers cost cuts that do not need deletion.

What if the Delete option is missing or the account will not delete?

Symptom Likely cause Fix
No Delete in the Actions menu Your user lacks the Delete permission, or you are not in Agency View Check Agency View > Settings > Users > Roles & Permissions > Sub-Accounts > Delete, or ask an admin
You deleted the wrong account Within 24 hours Click Click here to undo on the Sub-Accounts page immediately
24 hours passed Deletion is final HighLevel says it cannot be recovered. Contact support only to ask whether anything is possible, and do not plan around it
Client reports the portal will not open Expected after delete or pause HighLevel says the portal does not open. After a resume, access returns without extra setup
A number was deleted and you need it Numbers are deleted with the account HighLevel’s restore article covers numbers deleted or released from an active account within 10 days and says phone numbers tied to a cancelled subscription follow a different timeline. Ask support with the Location ID, and do not count on it
A charge continues Add-ons, apps or numbers billed separately Check Billing and cancel each paid add-on. Downgrading or deleting does not do it for you

If an account will not delete and you cannot see why, contact HighLevel support with the Location ID before you retry.

FAQs

How do I delete a sub-account in GoHighLevel?

In Agency View, click Sub-Accounts, pick the sub-account, click its three-dot menu and choose Manage Client. Click Actions at the top right and select Delete, then read and acknowledge the disclaimers. A Click here to undo link then appears on the Sub-Accounts page for 24 hours.

Can I recover a deleted GoHighLevel sub-account?

Only inside the 24-hour window. HighLevel shows a Click here to undo notification on the Sub-Accounts page after you schedule deletion. If nothing is done in 24 hours, its help article says the deletion is permanent and irreversible, and a deleted sub-account cannot be recovered after that period.

What happens to phone numbers when I delete a sub-account?

The deletion disclaimers say you confirm disconnecting and closing the LC Phone account for the location, and that all numbers and A2P campaigns will be deleted and cannot be retrieved. To keep a number, do not delete it first. HighLevel has a separate process for moving numbers between accounts.

What is the difference between deleting and pausing a sub-account?

Deleting is permanent after 24 hours and wipes the data. Pausing keeps the data. HighLevel says paused sub-accounts are not charged, all workflows are set to draft, and clients are prompted to contact the agency. An agency admin can still log in to a paused account and can resume it any time.

Who can delete a GoHighLevel sub-account?

Deletion is done from Agency View. HighLevel's roles article says a user's ability to delete sub-accounts is controlled separately by a Delete permission under the Sub-Accounts agency module in Roles and Permissions. If the Delete option is missing, ask an agency admin to check that setting.

Do I have to disconnect integrations before deleting a sub-account?

HighLevel's article says to ensure Twilio, Mailgun, Facebook, Google and other third-party integrations are disconnected. In its FAQ it adds that integrations left connected will stop working immediately. Disconnect them first so you can close or reuse those accounts cleanly.

How do I delete my whole GoHighLevel agency account?

That is cancellation, not sub-account deletion. HighLevel's billing FAQ lists the steps under Agency Settings, Billing. Cancelling also starts retention timers for data and phone numbers. Our cancellation guide has the steps, the refund policy and the $27 a month Pause Plan.

Does deleting a sub-account lower my GoHighLevel bill?

HighLevel lists cost management as a reason to delete, and says paused sub-accounts are not charged. The deletion article does not say when billing stops or how it changes your plan. Check Agency Settings, Billing after the 24 hours pass, and confirm with support if a charge remains.
