Can You Keep Your Business Phone Number in GoHighLevel?
Quick answer
Yes. You can port an existing US business number into GoHighLevel through the in-app port request, which generates the authorization letter for you. Ports of fewer than 50 numbers take two to four weeks after paperwork is submitted. Keep the old carrier active until the port completes, and register A2P 10DLC before texting from it.
Key takeaways
- US numbers can be ported into GoHighLevel with the in-app port request; HighLevel generates the letter of authorization (LOA) and sends it for e-signature.
- You need a recent billing statement (PDF or image up to 10 MB) and, for mobile numbers, the wireless PIN or last four digits of the account holder's SSN.
- HighLevel says ports of fewer than 50 numbers take two to four weeks after paperwork is submitted, and six to eight weeks for larger ports.
- Do not cancel the old carrier until the port completes. Cancelling early can make the port fail and lose the number.
- A ported local number still needs A2P 10DLC approval before it can send texts.
Yes. You can bring an existing US business number into GoHighLevel by porting it, so customers keep calling and texting the number they already know. HighLevel’s in-app port request generates the authorization letter for you. Ports of fewer than 50 numbers take two to four weeks after the paperwork is in, and the number keeps working with your old carrier until the move completes, as long as you do not cancel that service early.
Porting step by step
From HighLevel’s guides to submitting port-in requests (modified June 11, 2026) and porting options (modified September 3, 2026):
- Check who can submit. The in-app port request is available to agency owners and agency admins, through Labs, for eligible US numbers. International numbers use a manual form through HighLevel support.
- Collect the account details exactly as your carrier has them. Name, service address and account number must match the carrier’s records. A mismatch is the most common reason a port is rejected.
- Upload a billing statement. A recent bill from the current carrier, as a PDF or image up to 10 MB.
- Add the wireless PIN if it is a mobile number. Mobile carriers ask for a port-out PIN or the last four digits of the account holder’s SSN.
- Sign the letter of authorization. HighLevel generates the LOA from your request and sends it for digital signature.
- Wait, and keep the old service active. Do not cancel the old carrier until the port shows as completed.
How long it takes
| Port size | HighLevel’s stated timeline |
|---|---|
| Fewer than 50 numbers | Two to four weeks from submitted documents |
| 50 or more, or complex ports | Six to eight weeks |
The clock starts when the paperwork is complete and correct. A rejected request goes back to the start, so double-checking the account details saves the most time.
Texting from a ported number
A ported US local number cannot send texts until it is linked to an approved A2P 10DLC campaign. Toll-free numbers need toll-free verification instead. Submit A2P registration while the port is in progress, not after, so the number can text on the day it arrives. Our guide to A2P rejections covers what reviewers check.
Planning the switch-over
- Pick a quiet day for the cutover if you can, and tell staff that calls will start ringing in HighLevel or the LeadConnector app.
- Build call routing first. Ring groups, voicemail and missed-call text-back should be ready before the number arrives, so the first calls are handled.
- Update forwarding. If you had call forwarding at the old carrier, rebuild it in HighLevel.
- Keep the old bill. You may need it if anything about the port is disputed.
Can you port a number back out later?
Numbers belong to the business, and you can move them to another provider later. If you ever leave HighLevel, start that port before cancelling: HighLevel deletes phone numbers 14 days after cancellation. Our page on what happens when you cancel has the full timeline.
Number porting, A2P filing and call routing are included in every single-business build we do. See our GoHighLevel expert page for what else is included.
