How Do I Cancel My monday.com Subscription (and Delete the Account)?
Quick answer
An account admin cancels in Administration > Billing > Overview: open the product's three-dot menu, choose Cancel product, then Cancel plan renewal. Existing customers must cancel at least 30 days before the renewal date or the plan may renew. Refunds cover only a first purchase cancelled within 30 days. Closing the account and deleting its data are separate steps.
Part of the guide: monday CRM guide
Key takeaways
- Only an account admin can cancel. The path checked on October 17, 2026: profile picture > Administration > Billing > Overview, the product's three-dot menu > Cancel product, pick a reason, Cancel product plan, then Cancel plan renewal.
- monday.com subscriptions renew automatically by default. Existing customers must cancel at least 30 days before the subscription end date, or the plan may renew for another full term.
- Refunds apply only to a first purchase cancelled in writing within 30 days, prorated for unused time. Monthly renewals and renewed terms are not refunded, and access is blocked as soon as a refund is processed.
- Cancelling stops the renewal and you keep access until the plan end date. A closed account moves to a 7-day free trial, then goes inactive. Deleting the data is a separate request that monday.com says completes within 90 days.
- The Free plan (2 seats, 3 boards, 200 items, no automations or integrations) exists only on monday's AI Work Platform. monday CRM is not available on it.
- Export before you cancel. An admin can download the whole account as a zip from Administration > General > Account > Export account data, and it can take up to 24 hours.
To cancel a monday.com subscription, an account admin opens Administration > Billing > Overview, clicks the three-dot menu next to the product and chooses Cancel product, then confirms with Cancel plan renewal. That stops the renewal, and you keep access until the plan end date. Closing the account and deleting its data are separate, later steps. Existing customers should cancel at least 30 days before the renewal date, or the plan may renew for another term.
Checked on October 17, 2026. We opened monday.com’s help articles on cancelling and closing an account, cancelling a product, cancelling a free trial, refunds, downgrading, the Free plan, user management, account data export and security and privacy, plus the Terms of Service (last updated May 5, 2026). Where two of them disagree, we show both.
How to cancel a monday.com subscription step by step
These steps cancel one product’s renewal, for example monday CRM. They come from monday.com’s “How to cancel and close your account” and “How to cancel a monday product” articles.
- Click your profile picture and choose Administration.
- Select Billing in the left-hand menu. The Overview section opens.
- Find the product, click the three-dot menu next to it and choose Cancel product.
- Select a reason for cancelling. Extra details are optional.
- Click Cancel product plan.
- The next screen shows the plan’s end date. Click Cancel plan renewal to confirm.
- Decide what happens next. Either keep using the account until the end date, which now shows in red, or click Close your account at the bottom of the page to close it now. The final screen warns that access to your account data will be lost. Click Close Account to finish.
How to confirm it worked: the product shows a red Plan cancelled banner in the Billing overview. monday.com also emails plan cancellations to any billing contacts on the account.
Changed your mind? Before the end date, open the product’s three-dot menu and select Reactivate plan. monday.com says this resumes the product’s previous billing cycle.
Can I cancel monday.com from the mobile app?
Only on iOS, and only according to one of monday.com’s two articles. The cancel article says you can cancel in a web browser or on iOS: tap More at the bottom of the screen, go to Admin settings and select Delete account. The refund article (last modified October 11, 2026) says cancellation must be completed in a web browser. If you are asking for a refund, use the web. Android is not listed in either article.
Who can cancel a monday.com account?
Only an admin. If you are not an admin, ask your account admin. If no admin is available, monday.com asks you to contact its support team. Two more cases:
- Billing contacts receive billing emails but cannot open the billing section, so they cannot cancel.
- Accounts paid by wire transfer (invoice) cannot be cancelled in Administration. Contact your monday.com account manager instead.
If you only want to leave a company’s monday.com account, nothing needs cancelling. An admin removes you in Administration > Directory > Users: the three-dot menu next to your name, then Deactivate user. To erase your details afterwards, the admin filters for inactive users, opens the same menu and selects Delete user details. Deactivated users stop counting toward paid seats.
How do I cancel monday CRM when the account has other products?
Cancel each product separately. monday.com bills products such as monday CRM and work management on their own plans, and cancelling one product does not cancel the account. To close the whole account, repeat the steps above for every product in the Overview list until each shows the red Plan cancelled banner. monday.com’s note is direct: “Your account cannot be fully closed or deleted until all purchased products have been canceled.”
When a cancelled product’s plan ends, that product moves to a 7-day free trial and then becomes inactive. The rest of the account carries on. If you are unsure which product your team actually uses, monday CRM vs monday work management explains the split.
How do I cancel a monday.com free trial?
You do not need to. monday.com trials are a 14-day trial of the Pro plan, need no credit card, and the account deactivates on its own if you do not upgrade. You will not be charged.
To end a single-product trial early:
- Click your profile picture and select Administration.
- Select Billing, then click Close my account in the bottom right-hand corner.
- Click Close account.
To delete the trial’s data as well, select Delete my account data, then Delete account data for good on the next screen.
If you started a trial of a second product, such as monday CRM, on an account that already pays for another product, the Delete product option is greyed out until the trial ends. The trial stops on its scheduled date with no charge, and you can then remove the product from its tile’s three-dot menu with Delete product.
Does monday.com auto renew?
Yes. Section 8.9 of monday.com’s Terms of Service says a subscription “includes an automatic renewal option by default”. It renews for a period equal to the original term, at the same price but without any first-term discount or promotion.
The notice period is where people get caught. The two sources word it differently:
- Terms of Service (May 5, 2026): for an annual subscription, the cancellation notice must be no less than 30 days before it expires.
- Help articles (checked October 17, 2026): existing customers must give 30 days’ notice before the subscription end date, otherwise “your plan may auto-renew and you’ll be committed for the renewed term”. The articles do not split monthly from yearly here.
Check your renewal date in Administration > Billing > Overview. If it is within the next 30 days, cancel today. Cancelling partway through a term stops the next renewal, but the Terms say you are not refunded or credited for the unused time unless you are inside the refund window below.
Can I get a refund from monday.com?
Only on your first purchase, and only if you ask within 30 days. monday.com’s refund article and Section 9.1 of its Terms set the rules:
| Situation | Refund? |
|---|---|
| First purchase, cancelled with a written request within 30 days | Yes, the prorated part of unused prepaid fees |
| Yearly plan, more than 30 days after purchase | No |
| A monthly renewal | No |
| Existing customer whose monthly or yearly term has already renewed | No |
| Upgrades, add-ons or renewals bought after the first purchase, even inside the 30 days | No, the refund covers the initial purchase only |
| Usage-based fees, such as automation, integration or AI usage balances | No |
| Account auto-upgraded after going over its paid seat limit | Possible: reduce active seats to fit the original plan, then ask support within 30 days of the auto-upgrade |
Source: monday.com Support, Refund eligibility (last modified October 11, 2026), and monday.com Terms of Service, Sections 8.13 and 9.1 (last updated May 5, 2026).
Three details to know before you ask:
- Access stops at once. When a refund is processed, account access is blocked immediately. Export first.
- Timing. Refunds usually appear on the card statement within 7 to 10 business days. If not, contact support after 10 business days.
- Yearly or any first purchase? The cancel article describes the refund as applying to “yearly plans canceled within 30 days of purchase”. The refund article and the Terms describe it as applying to the first purchase without naming the billing cycle. If your first purchase was monthly and you are inside 30 days, ask in writing.
Removing users does not trigger a refund on its own. That is a common surprise after an auto-upgrade.
Cancel, downgrade or delete: which one do you need?
They do different things to your bill and your data. Pick the lightest option that solves the problem.
| Option | How | Billing effect | What you keep |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cancel a product | Billing > product’s three-dot menu > Cancel product | No further renewals. No refund for unused time outside the 30-day window | Full access until the plan end date, then a 7-day free trial, then the product goes inactive |
| Close the account | Cancel every product, then Close your account | Same as cancelling, and access ends now if you close immediately | Account becomes a 7-day free trial, then inactive. Data is kept by default, with no guarantee |
| Downgrade tier or seats | Three-dot menu > Change product plan or Change team size | Lower bill from the next renewal date. Never immediate | Everything, minus features above the new tier |
| Move to the Free plan | Close the account, let the trial expire, choose the Free plan | No charge | Data stays, view-only past the Free limits. monday CRM is not available |
| Delete the account data | Request deletion during account closure | None | Nothing. monday.com says deletion completes within 90 days and cannot be reversed |

How do I downgrade monday.com to the Free plan?
Close the paid account first, then pick the Free plan when the trial screen appears. monday.com’s steps:
- Cancel every product and close the account as described above. The account moves to a 7-day free trial.
- When that trial expires, click Not ready yet? Downgrade to our Free plan on the screen that appears.
Before you do it, check what the Free plan allows. From monday.com’s “Understanding the Free Plan” article:
- 2 seats, and you must already be down to 2 members or fewer to move
- 3 boards for the whole account
- 200 items, plus 100 for each person you refer, up to 1,000 in total
- 500 MB of storage
- No automations or integrations, and no guests or viewers
- No Formula, Time Tracking, Progress Tracking or Files columns
- Each dashboard can show data from 1 board
The catch for sales teams: monday.com states that “monday sales CRM and monday dev are not available on the Free Plan.” The Free plan exists only on monday’s AI Work Platform, so a CRM team that downgrades loses the CRM product. Our monday CRM plan limits page covers the paid CRM tiers.
If you go over the Free limits, existing data stays readable in view-only mode, but you cannot add items or boards. Private and shareable boards show as unavailable unless you convert them to main boards before the move.
If the real problem is the size of the bill, a paid downgrade may be enough. Use Change product plan for a lower tier or Change team size for fewer seats. Both take effect only at the next renewal, and you must deactivate users down to the new seat count before monday.com will schedule a seat reduction. The monday CRM pricing calculator shows the seat bucket you would land in, and monday CRM pricing explained walks through how the bill is built.
What happens to my data after I cancel?
Nothing changes until the plan end date. After that, monday.com’s articles describe this sequence:
- Until the end date: full access, and you can reactivate.
- After the account closes: it becomes a free trial for 7 days.
- After those 7 days: the account is inactive, and you and your team can no longer sign in.
- Data: “Currently, our policy is to keep all data available by default”, but monday.com adds that it cannot guarantee this indefinitely and may delete data from an inactive account at any time.
The Terms of Service (Section 11.4) put the duty on you: “It is Customer’s sole liability to export the Customer Data prior to such termination or expiration.” They mention a possible Read-Only Mode for exporting after termination, but say monday.com has no obligation to keep it running. Treat the end date as your last safe day to export.
If you cancelled with a refund, access is blocked immediately, not at the end date.
How do I delete my monday.com account and data for good?
Deletion happens as part of closing the account, and only an admin can request it.
- Cancel every product and close the account, as above.
- Choose to delete the account’s data instead of keeping it. On a trial account, the buttons are Delete my account data, then Delete account data for good. On iOS, the route is More > Admin settings > Delete account.
- Wait for completion. monday.com’s security and privacy FAQ says all account data is deleted within 90 days: a 30-day window that allows a rollback, then 60 days to remove it from monday.com’s and its sub-processors’ databases.
Once an account is completely deleted, monday.com says it cannot be reversed. The paid-account section of the cancel article shows the delete choice only in a screenshot, so we could not confirm its button label in text. If you do not see it, ask monday.com support to delete the data in writing.
Still getting emails afterwards? Use the Unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email, which is monday.com’s own advice.
What should I export before I cancel?
Everything you might need later, because only an admin can export the full account and the window closes with the plan. The full method, including what each export leaves out, is in how to export a monday.com board to Excel. The short version:
- Export the account: Administration > General > Account, scroll to Export account data and click Export. You get a zip of all boards, including private and shareable ones, plus uploaded files. It can take up to 24 hours, the emailed link works for 24 hours, and you can run it once every 24 hours.
- Export workdocs as PDF. The account export does not include workdocs.
- Unarchive boards you need. Archived boards are not included.
- Save what the zip misses. Dashboards and the monday CRM Emails & Activities timeline are not in the account export.
- Download invoices from Administration > Billing > Invoices for your records.
Moving to another CRM? Cancel last
Cancel monday.com after the new system is live, not before. The safe order is export, clean, import, run both side by side for a short period, then cancel, while still meeting the 30-day notice before your renewal date. If the renewal falls mid-project, submit the cancellation on time and keep working until the plan end date, since cancelling does not cut access early.
Our CRM migration guide covers the full sequence, from field mapping to rollback plans, and the CRM data cleaning checklist lists what to fix in the export before it goes anywhere else. If you are still choosing a destination, the head-to-head pages for monday.com vs Pipedrive and monday.com vs Airtable set out the tradeoffs.
Why can’t I cancel my monday.com subscription?
Work down the table and stop at the first row that matches.
| What you see | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| No Billing section, or no Cancel product option | You are not an admin | Ask an account admin. If none is available, contact monday.com support |
| No way to cancel in the Android app | Cancellation is only in the browser or on iOS | Use a web browser |
| Cancel option missing on an invoiced account | Paid by wire transfer | Contact your monday.com account manager |
| Close your account will not complete | Another product is still active | Cancel each product until every one shows Plan cancelled |
| Delete product is greyed out | The product’s trial or subscription has not expired yet | Wait for the end date. A trial ends with no charge |
| Charged again after cancelling | Cancelled less than 30 days before renewal, or cancelled one product but not another | Check each product’s status and the Invoices tab, then contact support with the invoice |
| Bill went up after you removed users | The account auto-upgraded, and removing people does not refund it | Reduce active seats to fit the original plan, then request a refund within 30 days of the auto-upgrade |
| Still receiving monday.com emails | Marketing or notification emails | Click Unsubscribe at the bottom of the email |
Causes and fixes from monday.com’s cancel, refund and billing articles, checked October 17, 2026.
To confirm the cancellation held, look for the red Plan cancelled banner on every product in Administration > Billing > Overview, with the plan end date shown in red. If a charge still appears, monday.com’s support team says it is available 24/7 through the help center.
When to bring in help
Cancelling is a short admin task. It stops being simple when the cancellation is the last step of a move: linked boards, automations and integrations need rebuilding somewhere else, and the renewal date sets a hard deadline. That is the work our monday.com service covers, and you can book a 30-minute call to plan the order before you give notice. For the wider picture of monday CRM, start at the monday CRM guide.
If you cancel to save money, check the free plan limits first, and a nonprofit may qualify for the monday.com nonprofit discount instead of leaving.
