How Do I Create Recurring Tasks in monday.com?

Quick answer

Click Automate on the board, open Create, choose Create from scratch and pick the recipe Every time period, then create an item. Set the repeat, time and item name. Each run creates a new item and uses automation actions from your plan, and it runs on the time zone of the person who set it up.

Key takeaways

  • monday.com does not have a repeat toggle on a task. You make a task recur with an automation such as Every time period, then create an item, set from Automate > Create > Create from scratch.
  • Each run creates a brand-new item. monday's help page says a recurring task does not update an existing item, which keeps every instance separate.
  • The automation runs on the desktop time zone of the person who set it up, so a 9 a.m. recipe built in New York fires at 6 a.m. for a teammate in Los Angeles.
  • Every run uses automation actions. monday's actions page says an every-time-period recipe uses one action per run, plus one for each Status, Tag, People or Dropdown column you fill on the new item.
  • If a recurring task stops, check four things named on monday's page: the automation is active, the board's automation limit is not reached, your plan supports it, and your monthly actions have not run out.

monday.com has no “repeat” checkbox on a task. A recurring task is an automation that creates a fresh item on a schedule. Open the board, click Automate, open the Create tab, choose Create from scratch, pick Every time period, then create an item, and set how often, what time and what the item is called. That is the whole setup. The parts that cause trouble are what happens after: the time zone it runs in, the actions it consumes, and the fact that each run makes a separate item.

Checked on October 18, 2026. We read monday.com’s help article on recurring tasks (last modified October 8, 2026) and its article on automation and integration actions and limits. We did not build the automation in a live account for this page.

How do I create a recurring task in monday.com?

  1. Open the board and click Automate.
  2. Open the Create tab and click Create from scratch.
  3. In the recipe builder, choose Every time period, then create an item.
  4. Set the repeat, for example every day at 10 a.m., or a custom interval or days of the week.
  5. Name the item, for example “Daily meeting”, and save.

monday’s own example does exactly this for a daily meeting: “every morning at 10am, an item titled ‘Daily meeting’ will be automatically created.” If the new item needs a status, owner or date, add those in the recipe, but see the action count below before you fill many columns.

How do I repeat a group, a reminder or a whole checklist?

You want Recipe on monday’s page Notes
A new item every period Every time period, then create an item One action per run
A new empty group every month Every time period, then create a group Choose the group name and time
A whole checklist each month Every time period, then duplicate a group Rename it, then clear old values with batch actions
A reminder to a team Every time period, then notify Use for weekly or month-end prompts
A task when a due date arrives When a date arrives, then notify someone Runs on the date column

For the “duplicate a group” route, monday’s example is a product-release board where the group is copied on the 1st of each month at 9 a.m. The copy keeps the old values, so reset the columns with batch actions after it appears.

Which time zone does a recurring automation use?

The desktop time zone of the person who built it. monday’s page gives the example: set it to 9 a.m. in New York and it runs at 9 a.m. Eastern every day, so a colleague in Los Angeles is notified at 6 a.m. Pacific. If your team spans zones, have the person whose morning matters build the automation. The page also says that a template reading “when date passed” triggers at midnight of that day.

How many automation actions does a recurring task use?

One action each time it runs, and sometimes more. monday’s actions page says any template that occurs “every time period” is perpetual: a new item is created, and one action is used. It then adds that if you fill Status, Tag, People, Dropdown columns or an Update section on the new item, each of those counts as an extra action.

A daily item with a status and an owner can therefore use three actions a day, which is roughly 90 a month for one recipe. Monthly action allowances come from your plan, and the limit refreshes monthly. Our monday CRM plan limits page tracks what each plan includes, and the same limits matter if you build the recurrence through the API instead (see daily API calls).

Why did my recurring task stop?

monday’s page gives a short checklist. Work down it in this order:

  1. Is the automation active? A switched-off recipe does nothing.
  2. Has the board reached its automation limit?
  3. Does your plan support it?
  4. Have you used your monthly actions? The actions page says the limit refreshes monthly.
  5. Is the creator still on the account? We found no monday page that says what happens when the builder is removed. Test it before you rely on it for a compliance task.

Should I use the Recurring Tasks app instead?

monday’s page suggests the marketplace Recurring Tasks app as “another way.” Start with the built-in automation: it needs no install, and its behaviour, time zone rule and action cost are documented. Use the app only if the built-in recipe cannot express your schedule. We did not test the app, so we cannot compare them beyond that.

If the real job is a sales process, such as chasing a deal every three days until it moves, a time-based recipe is the wrong tool. Build the follow-up into the pipeline with a status trigger. Our automation recipes guide shows the patterns, and the monday.com service page covers when we step in.

FAQs

How do I create a recurring task in monday.com?

Open the board, click Automate, open the Create tab and choose Create from scratch. Select the recipe Every time period, then create an item. Set how often it repeats, the time of day and the item name, then save. The automation adds a new item on that schedule.

Can monday.com repeat a task weekly or monthly?

Yes. monday's help page says you can set tasks to repeat daily, weekly or on a custom schedule, and can pick specific days, times or intervals when you set up the automation. For a monthly set of items, use the recipe that creates or duplicates a group each month.

Does a recurring task in monday.com update the old item or create a new one?

It creates a new one. monday's help page says each recurring task creates a new item rather than updating an existing one, so you can track every instance separately. If you want the same item to reset, you need a different automation that changes its status on a schedule.

What time zone does a monday.com recurring automation use?

The desktop time zone of the person who sets it up, per monday's help page. If you set 9 a.m. while in New York, it runs at 9 a.m. Eastern for everyone, which is 6 a.m. Pacific for a teammate in Los Angeles.

Do recurring tasks use up my monday.com automation actions?

Yes. monday's actions page says a template that occurs every time period is perpetual and uses one action each time it runs. If the new item also fills Status, Tag, People or Dropdown columns or an update, each of those counts as one more action.

Why is my monday.com recurring task not creating?

monday's page lists the checks: the automation is active, the board's automation limit has not been reached, and your plan supports recurring automations. Also check that the person who built it is still on the account, and that your monthly action allowance has not run out.

Is there a monday.com recurring tasks app?

Yes. monday's help page points to a Recurring Tasks app in its marketplace as another way to create recurring tasks. Try the built-in automation first, because it needs nothing installed and its behaviour is documented on monday's pages.

How do I make a new group every month in monday.com?

Click Automate, Create, Create from scratch and choose Every time period, then create a group. Set how often it repeats, the group name and the time. To copy a whole group each month, use the duplicate-group recipe, then clear old values with batch actions.
