Is monday.com Free for Personal Use?
Quick answer
Yes. monday.com has a free plan with no end date, built for two people: up to 2 seats, 3 boards and 3 Docs, with no automations, integrations or guests. monday's help center sets an item cap of 200, which you can raise to 1,000 by referring people. It is not a CRM: monday CRM needs a paid plan.

Key takeaways
- monday.com's free plan is free forever, not a trial. monday's pricing page describes it as up to 2 seats, up to 3 boards and up to 3 Docs, and says it suits freelancers and individual professionals.
- monday's help center adds the limits that decide whether it works: 200 items across the whole account (up to 1,000 by referring people), 500 MB storage, no viewers or guests, and no automations or integrations.
- monday CRM is not on the free plan. The help center says monday sales CRM and monday dev cannot be installed on it, and you test CRM through a 14-day Pro trial.
- You cannot start on the free plan directly. monday's help center says to start a trial of the AI work platform first, then choose to downgrade to free when the trial ends.
- Moving down from a paid plan keeps your data, but anything over the limits turns view-only, and you need exactly two users or fewer.
Yes. monday.com has a free plan that does not expire, and it fits one or two people tracking their own work. The catch is how small it is: 2 seats, 3 boards for the whole account, 200 items, no automations, no integrations and no guests. It is a work-management plan, not a CRM, so it will not hold a sales pipeline in any practical sense. If your question is “can I run my customers on it for free,” the answer is that you can store a short list, but you will hit the item cap and the missing automations first.

monday’s pricing page lists “unlimited free viewers” under the first paid plan (Basic), not under Free, and its card for the free plan says “Up to 2 seats.” Its help center says viewers and guests cannot be invited on Free. We therefore treat viewers as a paid feature. The help center does not list “3 Docs”; the pricing page does. The help center item cap of 200 does not appear on the pricing card we read, so confirm it on your own account: click your profile picture to see your item limit.
Is monday.com free for personal use or only for work?
monday’s pricing FAQ says the free plan “is ideal for freelancers and individual professionals,” and we found no page that excludes personal use. We did not read the full terms of service, so do not take this as legal advice on commercial use. In practice the limits decide it: two seats and three boards suit a personal project tracker, a freelancer’s client list or a small side project, and nothing more.
How do I get the free plan?
monday’s help center does not describe a direct free sign-up. The article says to start a free trial of the AI work platform first, which gives you every Pro feature. When the trial ends, a screen offers Downgrade to our free plan. To move down you need two members or fewer. If you are coming from a paid account:
- Remove users until you have two or fewer.
- Convert private and shareable boards to main boards, or they show as unavailable.
- Count your items. Over 200 and extra content turns view-only.
- Downgrade from the screen shown at trial end or from your billing page.
Your data stays in the account. Anything beyond the free limits is view-only, and column types the free plan does not support cannot be re-added unless you upgrade. Archived and deleted items do not count toward the cap.
How do I raise the item limit?
Click your profile picture, choose Earn items and share your link. Each person who signs up for their own account and verifies their email adds 100 items. monday’s help center says you can refer up to 8 accounts for up to 800 extra items, so 1,000 in total. The people you refer do not join your account and cannot see your content.
Can I use monday.com as a free CRM?
Not properly. The help center says plainly that monday sales CRM is not available on the free plan, and the automations that move a lead through a pipeline, send follow-ups or sync email are unavailable. The most you can do is build a plain contact list on a main board with the 200-item ceiling. To test the real thing, monday offers a 14-day free trial of the Pro plan for work management, monday CRM and monday dev.
If you are choosing a CRM and price is the main constraint, read our monday CRM pricing guide for the paid tiers and run your seat count through the monday CRM pricing calculator. The plan limits page shows what changes at each paid tier. If you are weighing monday.com against a different product for a small team, Pipedrive’s free plan question is answered separately.
When does free stop being enough?
Move to a paid plan when you need any one of these: a third person, more than three boards, a Formula column, an automation, an integration with Gmail, Outlook or Teams, a dashboard over several boards, or a client who needs to see a board. For a sales team the line is earlier still, because a CRM without automations and email sync is a spreadsheet with a prettier face. When you reach that point, our monday.com service page explains how we set up a CRM build, and monday CRM vs monday work management helps you choose the right product first.
