How Do I Connect Microsoft Teams to monday.com?

Quick answer

monday.com has two separate Teams connections. The Teams app adds a board as a tab in a channel and does not need a Microsoft administrator. The Teams integration posts board changes into a channel as messages, and monday's help page says an Office 365 Global Administrator must make the first connection.

Key takeaways

  • monday.com has two different Teams connections. The Teams app puts a board in a channel as a tab. The Teams integration is an automation recipe that posts messages into a channel when a board changes.
  • On October 18, 2026, monday's Teams integration page said an Office 365 Global Administrator must make the first connection, and after that any user can connect it to boards they can access. Its Teams app page said you do not need to be an Office 365 Administrator to use the app.
  • Both pages describe channels only. The integration page says monday.com supports Teams channels, not group chats.
  • Integration alerts go to the whole channel. The app's monday bot sends notifications only to you, so use the bot for personal alerts and the integration for team alerts.
  • A Teams integration recipe that shows as disabled with an error means the connecting account lacks the right permissions in Teams, per monday's troubleshooting section.

monday.com connects to Microsoft Teams in two different ways, and they solve different problems. The Teams app puts a monday board inside a Teams channel as a tab, so people work on the board without leaving Teams. The Teams integration is an automation recipe that posts a message into a channel when something changes on a board. You do not have to pick one: many teams use the tab for the work and the integration for alerts. The one thing that catches people out is who is allowed to set each one up.

Checked on October 18, 2026. We opened monday.com’s help articles for the Microsoft Teams integration and the Microsoft Teams and Copilot 365 app, and the search results for monday’s Teams articles for service and workflows. We did not install either one for this page. Everything below is what monday’s pages state, with the page named, and where a page is silent we say so.

What is the difference between the Teams app and the Teams integration?

The distinction in the last two rows of monday’s own text is the reason to use both. In its words, with the integration “any notification from a trigger will be sent to the whole channel,” while the app’s notifications “will be sent only to you through the monday.com chatbot.”

How do I add a monday.com board to a Teams channel?

  1. In the Teams channel or chat, click the + icon.
  2. Search for monday.com, select it and click Add.
  3. Sign in to monday.com and allow the Microsoft 365 permissions when asked.
  4. Choose an existing board, or create a new one. A board created from Teams lands in your Main Workspace in monday.com.
  5. Add it as a tab. monday’s page says there is no limit to the number of boards you can add as tabs to one channel.

Before you start, check two permissions on the monday side. If the board uses item-level permissions, the person setting up the app must be able to view all items. They also need permission to change the board’s content and structure. The app page says Viewers cannot access it, and that it is not supported for Australian server accounts.

Once the tab is in place you can use automations, integrations, board views and filters from inside Teams, as the page puts it. You can even add tabs from different monday accounts: log out of one account and into another while choosing the board.

How do I send monday.com notifications to a Teams channel?

This is the integration, and it runs from monday, not Teams.

  1. Open the board and click Integrate at the top right.
  2. On the Automations page, open the Create tab and search for Microsoft Teams.
  3. Pick a template. monday’s page describes two: when an item is created, notify the team in a channel and when a status changes to something, notify the team in a channel.
  4. Click Connect and sign in to Microsoft. This is the step that needs a Global Administrator the first time.
  5. Write the message. You can include the user name, board name and item name, or use monday’s pre-written message.
  6. Choose the team and channel.

Because these messages go to everyone in the channel, point status alerts at a channel where the noise is welcome, such as “deals closed won”, not your general chat.

Who has to approve the Microsoft connection?

monday’s integration page says the Office 365 Global Administrator “must connect their account using their credentials” for the initial connection between monday.com and Teams, and recommends that the administrator add a recipe to one of their boards to do it. After that first connection, “all users on the account will be able to connect the integration to any board that they can access.”

The page lists the Microsoft permissions the integration asks for, so you can show them to a security reviewer:

Permission What monday’s page says it is for
User.read Reads the profile to show the display name on the connection
GroupMember.Read.All Lists groups, reads basic group properties and membership for groups you can access
Team.ReadBasic.All Lists the teams you can choose from
Channel.ReadBasic.All Lists the channels you can choose from
ChannelMessage.Send Sends messages to channels as configured
offline_access Keeps access without frequent reconnecting

The Teams app asks for a longer list on the Teams side, including TeamsActivity.Send and two application-level permissions (TeamsAppInstallation.ReadWriteSelfForUser.All and User.Read.All). If your Microsoft tenant blocks user consent, ask your administrator to review these in Microsoft Entra. We did not test your tenant’s settings, so we cannot say which screen your administrator will see.

What if the Teams integration is disabled or will not connect?

  • Recipe disabled with an error. monday’s page says this happens because you do not have the relevant permissions in Teams. Reconnect with an account that is a member of the team and can post in the channel.
  • Authentication through the chat bot fails in the Teams desktop app. The page says bot authentication is not available in the app version of Teams. Sign in through your browser first, then the bot works in the app.
  • Group chat is not in the list. Group chats are not supported; only channels are.
  • No Global Administrator available. Use the Teams app instead if tabs and personal bot alerts are enough. It does not need one.

When does a Teams setup need a specialist?

A tab and two alert recipes take under an hour. It gets harder when Teams is one of several systems in a sales process, for example when a closed deal in your CRM should post to a channel, create a delivery board and notify finance. That sits in the design of your monday CRM, not in the Teams connection itself. Our monday.com service page describes how we scope that, and the automation recipes guide shows the sales-to-delivery patterns that Teams alerts usually hang off.

FAQs

Does monday.com integrate with Microsoft Teams?

Yes, in two ways. The Teams app adds a monday board to a Teams channel as a tab, and its bot sends you notifications. The Teams integration is a set of automation recipes that post a message into a Teams channel when an item is created or a status changes.

How do I add a monday.com board to a Teams channel?

In the channel or chat, click the plus icon, search for monday.com, click Add and sign in. Then choose an existing board or create a new one, and add it as a tab. monday's help page says there is no limit on how many boards you can add as tabs to a channel.

How do I get monday.com notifications in Microsoft Teams?

For channel messages, open a board, click Integrate, find Microsoft Teams, pick a template such as when a status changes, connect your account, write the message and choose the team and channel. For private alerts to you alone, use the monday bot installed with the Teams app.

Do I need to be a Microsoft administrator to connect monday.com to Teams?

For the integration, the first connection needs an Office 365 Global Administrator, according to monday's help page. After that, all users on the account can connect it to boards they can access. For the Teams app you do not need to be an administrator.

Can monday.com send messages to a Teams group chat?

No. monday's Teams integration page says it supports Teams channels only and that group chats are not supported.

Why is my monday.com Teams integration disabled?

monday's help page says a recipe disabled with an error message means you do not have the relevant permissions in place within Teams. Reconnect with an account that can post in the channel, and ask your Microsoft administrator to approve the app's permissions if the connection screen blocks you.

Who can see a monday.com board I add to a Teams channel?

Everyone in the channel can see that the tab exists, but only people with access to the board can see its content. A private board stays hidden from anyone not subscribed to it. The tab takes the board's name by default, and you can rename the tab in Teams without renaming the board.
