Fervor: a booking platform that matches clients to stylists by hair type

Fervor (client: Fer Vor) helps people with textured or specialist hair find stylists who are qualified to work with it. We built a discovery and booking platform that matches clients on hair type and certifications, not distance. It listed 3,400 stylists with verified specialisms in year one, and 78% of clients rebook with the same stylist within four months. We built it in 7 weeks.

The challenge

Clients with specialist hair care needs had a hard time finding qualified stylists, and the stylists who did that work had little online visibility to reach new clients.

For many people, finding a stylist who can really handle their hair type means asking around, scrolling Instagram and sitting through at least one appointment that goes wrong.

General booking apps add to the problem. They rank salons by distance and price, file everything under haircut, and tell a client nothing about whether the stylist has ever worked with their texture. So a client tries three salons, has two bad experiences and stops trusting the whole category.

Specialist stylists faced the reverse problem. Their skill was the reason clients would cross a city to see them, yet no channel made that skill findable. They depended on word of mouth and a personal Instagram, which limits how far a business can grow.

What we built

We built a discovery and booking platform centred on stylist portfolios and clear service details. Clients are matched to qualified specialists through a recommendation flow they can trust, and stylists reach the clients who need their specific skills.

Specialism-first stylist profiles

Profiles lead with the hair types and textures a stylist works with and the techniques they are certified in. Portfolios are tagged by hair type, so clients can see work on hair like their own.

Intake-based client matching

A short intake covers texture, density, current condition, chemical history and the outcome the client wants. Matches come from portfolio and certification fit, not proximity.

Separate consultation booking

Consultations are booked as their own appointment, because for specialist work they are a distinct visit, not an add-on.

Deposits for long appointments

Deposit handling protects the long slots that specialist services need.

Aftercare and product recommendations

Clients receive aftercare instructions after the appointment, along with recommendations for the products that were used.

Hair-type-aware reviews

Every review records the reviewer's hair type, so a rating carries context.

Screens and design system

The result

The 78% rebooking rate shows the matching works. Once a client finds a stylist who suits their hair, they stop shopping around, which is why the discovery problem was worth solving properly.

Stylists have used demand data from the platform to justify narrowing their specialism instead of broadening it, the opposite of the usual industry advice on building a client book.

Questions about this specialist stylist discovery and booking marketplace build

How do you match clients with the right hair stylist on a booking platform?

Fervor matches on fit instead of distance. Clients complete a short intake on texture, density, current condition, chemical history and desired outcome, and the platform returns stylists whose hair-type-tagged portfolios and certifications match. Time to find a suitable stylist fell from weeks to under a day for clients with textured or specialist hair.

How can a stylist booking platform reduce no-shows?

Fervor keeps its booking no-show rate at 6%. Two things help: deposit handling that protects long specialist appointment slots, and matching clients to stylists through a consultation that is booked as its own appointment, so both sides know the fit before the main service.

How long does it take to build a stylist discovery and booking marketplace?

We built Fervor in 7 weeks. It includes specialism-first stylist profiles, intake-based matching, separate consultation booking, deposits, aftercare and product recommendations, and reviews that record hair type. In year one it listed 3,400 stylists, and the average stylist adds 11 new clients a month through it.
