Why Is GoHighLevel So Expensive? What the Bill Is Made Of
Quick answer
GoHighLevel feels expensive because the $97, $297 or $497 plan is only one of five cost layers. Texts, calls, email, AI, carrier fees, texting registration and per-sub-account add-ons bill on top, and a single business carries all of it alone. Below: every layer with its current price, a line-by-line stack comparison, and how to cut each driver.
Part of the guide: GoHighLevel pricing
Key takeaways
- HighLevel's pricing page, checked October 17, 2026, lists Starter at $97, Unlimited at $297 and Agency Pro at $497 a month ($970, $2,970 and $4,970 a year). The same page says the plan covers the platform and that usage-based charges for phone, SMS, email and AI apply on top.
- Per-unit usage from HighLevel's LC Phone guide (modified October 12, 2026): US texts $0.00747 a segment plus a $0.0035 to $0.0050 carrier fee, outbound calls $0.0166 a minute, local numbers $1.15 a month. Email is $0.675 per 1,000 sends.
- In our illustrative light account, a $97 Starter plan comes to about $118 a month with 500 texts, 5,000 emails, one number and one texting campaign. A five-tool stack priced from each vendor's own page the same day came to $178 a month, so GoHighLevel only comes out lower if it replaces most of those tools.
- A single business pays the whole plan alone. An agency on Unlimited or Agency Pro spreads one plan across many sub-accounts and, on Agency Pro, can rebill usage with markup.
- Plan prices did not change in 2026, but US carrier fees rose in four rounds. Wallet auto recharge cannot be turned off, and AI has no spending limit unless you set one.
GoHighLevel feels expensive because the $97, $297 or $497 plan is only the first of five layers on the bill. Texts, calls, email and AI bill by use, carriers and texting registries add pass-through fees, add-ons charge per sub-account, and someone has to build and run it. A single small business pays all of that alone, while an agency spreads the plan across many clients.

Why is GoHighLevel so expensive? The five layers of the bill
The price is high on paper because one number is quoted and five are paid. HighLevel’s pricing page says the subscription covers the platform features and that usage-based costs for telecommunications and AI apply on top. It also says billing starts automatically after the 14-day trial and that usage fees may apply during the trial.
| Layer | What you pay | Where it is billed |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Plan | $97, $297 or $497 a month | Card, monthly or annual |
| 2. Usage | Texts, calls, email, numbers, AI, premium workflow actions | Prepaid Agency Wallet |
| 3. Pass-through fees | Carrier fee per text segment, texting registration (A2P 10DLC) | Wallet |
| 4. Add-ons | AI Employee, WhatsApp, HIPAA, white label app, Premium support and more | Card, per sub-account or flat |
| 5. People | A builder or agency to set it up and run it | Outside HighLevel |
Our pricing hub walks each layer. The rest of this page answers why each one adds up and what you can do about it.
What does the GoHighLevel subscription price buy?
The subscription buys the platform with unlimited contacts and users on every plan, and the plans differ by sub-account count and rebilling rights. Prices below are from HighLevel’s pricing page, checked October 17, 2026.
| Plan | Monthly | Annual | Sub-accounts | Rebilling usage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $97 | $970 | 3 | None listed |
| Unlimited | $297 | $2,970 | Unlimited | Phone and email, no markup |
| Agency Pro | $497 | $4,970 | Unlimited | Phone and email with markup, SaaS Mode |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Not listed | Not listed |
Annual billing works out to $80.83, $247.50 and $414.17 a month. HighLevel’s Pricing Guide (modified August 22, 2026) says rebilling with markup is available only on the $497 plan. All plans list a 14-day free trial, and the page says there is no long-term contract.
Plan prices did not move in 2026. Our 2026 price tracker records the changes that did, mostly to usage.
How much does GoHighLevel charge per text, email and call?
Each unit is small, and the total depends on volume. These are HighLevel’s published US and Canada rates, from the LC Phone guide (modified October 12, 2026), the LC Email article (modified August 20, 2026) and the Pricing Guide.
| Meter | Rate | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Text (SMS), in or out | $0.00747 per segment | Plus a carrier fee per segment |
| Carrier fee, outbound SMS | AT&T $0.0035, T-Mobile $0.0045, Verizon $0.0050, US Cellular $0.0050, others $0.0042 | Recipient’s carrier decides |
| Picture message (MMS), outbound | $0.0220 per segment | Plus higher carrier fees |
| Outbound call | $0.0166 per minute | Full minutes, partial rounds up |
| Inbound call (web, mobile, desk phone) | $0.01165 per minute | Both legs of the call bill |
| Inbound toll-free call | $0.0198 per minute | |
| Call recording / storage / transcription | $0.0025 / $0.0005 per month / $0.024 per minute | Storage bills daily on older recordings too |
| Email sent or received | $0.675 per 1,000 | To, CC and BCC all count |
| Email verification | $2.50 per 1,000 | |
| Local / toll-free number | $1.15 / $2.15 per month | US and Canada |
So one outbound text costs about $0.011 to $0.0125 all in ($0.00747 plus $0.0035 to $0.0050), and one email costs about $0.000675. HighLevel says it charges for every message where a delivery attempt was made, whatever the final delivery status, and does not refund undelivered texts. A message with an emoji or a long template can split into several segments, which multiplies the cost. Paste a draft into the SMS segment counter before a large send.
HighLevel says its phone pricing “matches Twilio’s rates”, and its A2P article says registration and carrier fees are pass-through charges with no HighLevel markup. The LC Phone guide, in contrast, says a fixed 5% markup applies to pass-through categories at the sub-account level when rebilling is enabled. If you rebill, check which one applies to your wallet statement.
What are the usage charges for AI, WhatsApp and texting registration?
AI, WhatsApp and texting registration are separate meters, and AI is the one that varies most. HighLevel’s AI Product Pricing article (modified October 13, 2026) offers three plans per enabled location.
| AI option | Price | What it includes |
|---|---|---|
| Pay-per-use | No subscription, token cost | Billed per model and action |
| AI Employee Growth | $50 a month per location | 1,000 Conversation AI responses and 100 Voice AI minutes a month, then pay-per-use rates |
| AI Employee Unlimited | $97 a month per location | Unlimited Conversation AI and Voice AI, subject to fair use |
Voice AI on pay-per-use adds a Voice Engine rate of $0.045 a minute (from May 20, 2026), a text-to-speech rate from $0.015 to $0.170 a minute, and model tokens. Speech-to-speech is $0.10 a minute on Google Gemini 3.1 Flash Live Preview and $0.20 on OpenAI gpt-realtime. The article states that phone charges still apply to calls even on the Unlimited plan, and that Agent Studio is pay-per-use on every plan.
WhatsApp is $10 a month per enabled sub-account plus per-message charges. HighLevel’s WhatsApp guide (modified September 22, 2026) says that from October 1, 2026, service messages and in-window utility messages become billable per message, with the first 1,000 service messages per phone number each month free.
US business texting from a local number needs A2P 10DLC registration. HighLevel’s A2P article (modified September 24, 2026) lists $22.50 one time for Sole Proprietor and Low Volume Standard, $64 for High Volume Standard, $15 for each additional campaign, and a monthly campaign fee of $1.50 to $10 depending on use case. Our A2P fee calculator totals it for your brand type.
Is GoHighLevel more expensive than buying separate tools?
It depends on how many tools it replaces, and it only comes out ahead when it replaces most of a stack. The example below is illustrative. We priced five common single-purpose tools from each vendor’s own pricing page on October 17, 2026, and compared them with a light GoHighLevel Starter account.
| Job | Tool and plan | Price on the vendor’s page | Monthly |
|---|---|---|---|
| Booking | Calendly Standard, 1 seat | $10 per seat per month, billed yearly | $10.00 |
| CRM | Pipedrive Lite, 1 seat | US$14 per seat per month, billed annually | $14.00 |
| Forms | Jotform Bronze | $34 a month billed annually ($39 monthly) | $34.00 |
| Text marketing | SimpleTexting, 500 credits plus a local number | Estimated $39.00 a month; billed yearly at $398.40; $4 one-time carrier registration; carrier fees extra | $39.00 |
| Funnels and pages | ClickFunnels Launch | $81 a month billed annually ($97 monthly) | $81.00 |
| Stack total | Mixed annual-billed prices | $178.00 |
Against that, a light GoHighLevel Starter account, using the rates above:
| Line | Calculation | Monthly |
|---|---|---|
| Starter plan, billed monthly | $97.00 | |
| 500 outbound texts | 500 x $0.00747 | $3.74 |
| Carrier fees, at the $0.0050 ceiling | 500 x $0.0050 | $2.50 |
| One local number | $1.15 | |
| 5,000 emails | 5 x $0.675 | $3.38 |
| One standard texting campaign | $10.00 | |
| Total | $117.77 |
On these assumptions GoHighLevel is about $60 a month lower than the stack. That gap depends on the stack. Remove the funnel tool ($81) and the stack is $97, which is $20.77 lower than GoHighLevel’s $117.77. We left out email marketing because we could not open Mailchimp’s current price on this date, and we left out the one-time $22.50 registration and any build time. The comparison also ignores that some of these tools have free tiers, and that you may need two seats for a team.
The same logic is in is GoHighLevel worth it for a small business, which owns the full “is it worth it” test and uses its own assumptions, so its totals differ slightly from the ones here.
Why does the bill feel higher for one small business than for an agency?
A single business pays the entire plan alone, while an agency divides it across clients and may be paid back through rebilling. Take an agency on Unlimited at $297 with 10 client sub-accounts: the plan is $29.70 per client per month. A one-location business on Starter pays $97 for itself.
The difference grows on Agency Pro. HighLevel’s Pricing Guide says rebilling with markup is available on the $497 plan, so an agency can charge sub-accounts more than HighLevel charges the agency for supported services. Reselling services such as WhatsApp or Online Listings lets the agency recover the per-sub-account cost, and the pricing page says most add-ons can be resold with markup on Agency Pro.
Three things make a single business feel the pinch more:
- No one to rebill. Usage, AI Employee at $50 or $97 and WhatsApp at $10 all land on your own card.
- Lumpy charges. Usage is drawn from a prepaid wallet that recharges the card when it falls below your threshold. HighLevel’s Wallet article gives an example of a $50 recharge at a $25 threshold, says Auto Recharge cannot be disabled, and says Smart Adjustment raises the recharge amount if the same amount triggers more than three times in seven days.
- Fixed overhead for texting. The A2P campaign fee bills monthly whether you send one text or a thousand.
An agency’s risk is the opposite: when carrier fees change, its margin changes. See what changed in 2026.
What are the biggest bill drivers, and how do you reduce each?
Find the driver first, then act on it. Go to Agency View > Settings > Billing > Wallet & Transactions and sort by service. HighLevel’s Wallet article says the Summary and Detailed Transactions views show spending by product or sub-account.
| Bill driver | Why it grows | How to reduce it |
|---|---|---|
| Texts | Per segment, plus carrier fee; emoji and long copy split into more segments | Shorten copy to one segment; avoid MMS where SMS works; test in the segment counter |
| Looping workflows | A workflow that re-sends bills every time | Check the execution log, allow one enrollment per contact, add an exit condition. See the 10-point audit |
| AI Employee | $50 or $97 for every enabled location, used or not | Disable on unused sub-accounts; compare last month’s AI spend with the plan price |
| AI with no limit | HighLevel says no spending limit is configured by default | Set limits at AI Suite > Plans & Limits; choose Block AI at the limit if the limit must be enforced |
| Voice AI model | $0.10 vs $0.20 a minute for speech-to-speech | Test call quality on the lower-rate model |
| Calls and recordings | Transcription $0.024 vs recording $0.0025 a minute; stored recordings bill daily | Transcribe only calls you review. Set deletion at Settings > Phone Numbers > Advanced Settings > Voice Calls > Call Recording |
| Idle numbers and add-ons | $1.15 or $2.15 a number, $10 WhatsApp, other per-sub-account add-ons | List what each sub-account has enabled and switch off what is unused |
| Email volume | $0.675 per 1,000, counted for every recipient | Remove unengaged contacts; verify once, not every send |
| Plan tier | Paying for Agency Pro without rebilling | Starter or Unlimited if you do not rebill with markup; annual billing is $970, $2,970 or $4,970 |
To confirm a change worked, watch the wallet for a day or a week and compare the service breakdown. How to lower your GoHighLevel bill works through each check with arithmetic, the wallet explainer covers the recharge settings, and the pricing calculator estimates the monthly total from your own volumes.
When is GoHighLevel not worth the price?
It is not worth it when you need one tool and have few leads. If you only need a booking page, a form or a newsletter, a single-purpose tool at the prices above usually has a lower monthly total.
- One simple need. From the stack table, Calendly alone is $10 a month.
- No time to build it. The subscription sits unused. A done-for-you setup is a separate cost: aibrevo’s published band for a single-business GoHighLevel build is $1,499 to $4,999, in addition to HighLevel’s fees.
- Cold texting at volume. Texting needs A2P registration, and every segment bills even when delivery fails.
- Compliance add-ons you cannot avoid. HIPAA compliance is a $297 a month add-on, and HighLevel says it cannot be deactivated once purchased.
- You cannot control usage. Auto Recharge cannot be turned off, and AI has no default spending limit.
If none of those apply and you replace three or more paid tools, the arithmetic usually favours consolidating. Run it on your own invoices with the worth-it test.
When should you bring in help?
Bring in help when the bill looks wrong and you cannot trace it to a service, or when you are pricing a build before you sign. Pull the last 30 days of wallet transactions first. aibrevo scopes and reviews GoHighLevel builds through its GoHighLevel service, and you can book a 30-minute call with a recent invoice.
