GoHighLevel Wallet: Auto-Recharge, Rebilling and Charges Explained
The GoHighLevel wallet is a prepaid usage balance. HighLevel charges the agency card, usage draws the balance down, and when it falls below your threshold the same card is charged again. Auto-recharge itself cannot be turned off; Smart Adjustment, which raises the amount, can. This page explains each charge, setting and menu path from HighLevel's own help articles.
Part of the guide: GoHighLevel pricing
Key takeaways
- The wallet is a prepaid balance that pays for usage (phone, email, validation, AI, workflow premium actions). When it falls below your threshold, HighLevel charges the card on file again. That charge is the 'mystery' one on most statements.
- Per HighLevel's August 2026 article, Auto Recharge cannot be disabled. You can disable Smart Adjustment (shown as Auto-update), which otherwise raises your recharge amount when the same amount triggers more than three times in seven days.
- The Agency Wallet is always charged for sub-account usage. Rebilling then recovers it from the sub-account: at cost on the $297 and $497 plans, with markup on the $497 plan only.
- Monthly fees such as the WhatsApp subscription, Yext and WordPress hosting charge the card directly, not the wallet, so they never appear in Wallet & Transactions.
- If the wallet goes negative, LC services (texts, calls, email) are temporarily halted until a payment succeeds. Set wallet notifications at Agency View > Billing > Notifications > Wallet before that happens.
What is the GoHighLevel wallet and what does it pay for?
The wallet is a prepaid balance that pays for usage, not for your plan. HighLevel’s pricing guide says funds are loaded by charging the agency card on file, usage draws the balance down, and when it falls below your minimum the same card is charged again. Covered services: phone system, email system, email validation, AI usage, address autocomplete and workflow premium features.
How a wallet charge happens
1. A text, call, email or AI action runs in any sub-account. 2. The cost is deducted from the Agency Wallet at the per-unit rate. 3. The balance drops below your threshold. 4. HighLevel charges the card on file for your recharge amount. 5. The balance is topped up and the cycle continues.
Source: HighLevel Pricing Guide and Rebilling and Wallets FAQ, checked October 13, 2026The per-unit rates that deplete the wallet are in GoHighLevel usage rates. The plan fee ($97, $297 or $497) is a separate subscription charge; see the pricing hub. Most pages on this topic describe a wallet in one paragraph. What this page adds is the setting-by-setting detail, a charge-type table to tell wallet top-ups from direct card charges, and a symptom to cause to fix list.
Which charges hit the wallet and which hit the card directly?
Usage-based services deduct from the wallet; monthly fees charge the card on file directly. This is the single most useful distinction when a statement does not match Wallet & Transactions, per HighLevel’s Rebilling, Reselling and Wallets FAQ (modified September 30, 2026).
| Charge | Where it is billed | Shows in Wallet & Transactions? |
|---|---|---|
| SMS, MMS, calls, recording, numbers (LC Phone) | Wallet | Yes |
| LC Email, email validation | Wallet | Yes |
| AI usage (tokens, Voice AI minutes) | Wallet | Yes |
| Workflow premium actions | Wallet | Yes |
| WhatsApp conversations | Wallet | Yes |
| WhatsApp subscription ($10 per enabled sub-account per month) | Card on file | No |
| Yext, WordPress hosting | Card on file | No |
| Plan fee ($97, $297, $497) | Card on file | No |
| Wallet top-up itself | Card on file, as a charge that funds the wallet | As the credit |

How do I set up auto-recharge and set a safe limit?
Open Settings, then Billing, then Wallet & Transactions. Under the wallet balance, set the Auto recharge with dropdown (the amount added) and the when balance is lower than dropdown (the trigger). HighLevel’s example is a $50 recharge with a $25 threshold, which fires when the balance falls to $24.99. That is menu path and wording from the article modified August 12, 2026.
- Pick a recharge amount near one normal week of usage, not a month. A small amount means you notice problems sooner.
- Pick a threshold that covers your fastest-draining day, so a bulk send does not run the wallet to zero mid-campaign.
- Add a payment card that has headroom. A declined top-up halts services.
- Set wallet notifications (next section).
HighLevel’s article does not list every available recharge amount or threshold option, nor a minimum or maximum balance, and mentions no low-balance alert, so look at the dropdowns in your own account. If an older guide tells you to disable auto-recharge, go by the August 2026 article, which says it cannot be disabled.
What is Smart Adjustment, and should I turn it off?
Smart Adjustment (labeled Auto-update) raises your recharge amount when the same amount triggers more than three times within seven days, moving it to the next recharge level (the article’s example: $200 to $500). Turn it off if you want the amount to stay where you set it.
- Go to Settings, Billing, Wallet & Transactions.
- Open the three-dot menu beside the Auto Recharge controls.
- Click Disable Auto-update, then Yes in the confirmation window.
Check the same menu afterward; the exact wording after disabling is not documented in the article, so confirm in your account. The trade-off: a fixed small amount that triggers four times in a week is a signal that usage outgrew the setting. Disabling Smart Adjustment hides that growth in more frequent charges rather than fixing it, so look at what is draining the balance, using the cost audit.
How do I get alerts before the wallet runs out?
HighLevel’s rebilling FAQ gives the path Agency View, Billing, Notifications, Wallet. There you set a usage threshold and a frequency; account owners are notified by default and you can add other email addresses. Each sub-account that exceeds the threshold triggers at most one email per day.
A usage threshold alert is the useful one for cost control, because it warns on spend, not on balance. Pick a figure a little above a normal week for your busiest sub-account. If an alert fires with no campaign running, you have a runaway automation; start at workflow sending duplicate messages.
How does rebilling work, and who pays for a sub-account’s usage?
The Agency Wallet always pays for sub-account usage; rebilling is how the agency recovers it. The FAQ lists three situations:
| Setup | Plan required | Who pays HighLevel | What the sub-account pays |
|---|---|---|---|
| No rebilling | Any | Agency Wallet | Nothing for usage |
| Rebilling without markup | $297 or $497 | Agency Wallet | The same amount the agency paid |
| Rebilling with markup | $497 (Agency Pro) only | Agency Wallet | A marked-up price, charged through the agency’s Stripe |

Setup is at Agency View, Sub-Accounts, Manage Client, Rebilling. The configuration stays On Hold until a payment method is added, and an On Hold configuration can be removed from the same tab. Reselling settings are at Agency View, Reselling. If the sub-account wallet is low, the agency Stripe charges the sub-account’s card. Those charges belong to the agency and are subject to Stripe processing fees.
One detail to reconcile: HighLevel’s A2P fee article says fees are pass-through with no markup, while the LC Phone guide says a fixed 5 percent markup applies to A2P registration, carrier fees, Verified Caller ID and RCS carrier fees when rebilling is enabled at the sub-account level. The reading that fits both is that HighLevel passes cost to the agency and the 5 percent shows on the rebilled amount. Verify against your own statement. Why was I charged? A symptom, cause and fix table
Start at Settings, Billing, Wallet & Transactions and match the date of the charge to a top-up.
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Several card charges in one week for the same amount | Balance below threshold repeatedly; usage outpacing recharge amount | Find the draining service in Transactions; raise the amount or fix the source |
| The recharge amount rose by itself | Smart Adjustment moved up a level after more than three triggers in seven days | Disable Auto-update (path above) and address the usage |
| A card charge with no matching wallet transaction | Direct monthly fee: WhatsApp, Yext, WordPress hosting, or plan fee | Check the plan and add-on list; cancel what you do not use |
| Texts and calls stopped sending | Wallet negative; services halted until payment succeeds | Update or replace the card, check the failed payment in Stripe or with the bank |
| Sub-account says it was never charged | No rebilling configured, or configuration On Hold with no payment method | Agency View, Sub-Accounts, Manage Client, Rebilling; add a payment method |
| Usage is higher than the plan size suggests | Per-unit meters (segments, voice minutes, AI) | See usage rates and the audit |
| You cancelled and want unused wallet money back | Fees are non-refundable under the Terms of Service | See cancelling and refunds |
If the numbers still do not reconcile after matching dates, send HighLevel support the transaction dates and amounts. For a setup that needs wallet, rebilling and Stripe configured and tested together, that is part of a GoHighLevel build, and hidden costs covers the flat add-ons that never touch the wallet.
