What Are the monday.com Automation Rate Limits?
Quick answer
monday.com throttles an automation at 250 triggers or 500 actions per 60 seconds and blocks it at 4,500 triggers or 10,000 actions. Boards and accounts have higher thresholds, and a separate complexity limit resets every 60 seconds per account. These are per-minute limits, not the monthly action allowance on your plan.

Key takeaways
- Each automation is throttled at 250 triggers or 500 actions per 60 seconds and blocked at 4,500 triggers or 10,000 actions. Boards and accounts have higher thresholds (monday.com help article edited Feb 3, 2026, checked Oct 22, 2026).
- Throttled means the automation keeps running but may be slower. Blocked means no new triggers or actions are accepted until the limit resets, runs fail, and the failures can lead to auto-disable.
- A separate complexity limit covers heavier actions such as creating subitems, batch actions, mirroring, duplicating a board and creating items. It resets every 60 seconds and is set per account, not per user, on every plan.
- The usual causes are an automation loop, triggering automations through the API or webhooks, and batch actions that fire many templates at once.
- Integration rate limits come from the third-party app, not monday.com. Outlook's own limit, for example, caps how many emails monday can send through it per minute.
monday.com limits how fast automations can run, in 60-second windows. One automation is throttled at 250 triggers or 500 actions and blocked at 4,500 triggers or 10,000 actions. Boards and accounts have higher thresholds. These are per-minute limits and have nothing to do with the monthly automation actions your plan includes, so you can break one without coming near the other.

What are the exact monday.com automation rate limits?
Per 60 seconds, as monday.com lists them:
| Scope | Triggers: throttle | Triggers: block | Actions: throttle | Actions: block |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Per automation | 250 | 4,500 | 500 | 10,000 |
| Per board | 500 | 10,000 | 1,000 | 30,000 |
| Per account | 2,000 | 100,000 | 2,500 | 250,000 |

monday defines the two levels this way. Throttled: automations continue running but may be slower. Blocked: no new triggers or actions are accepted until the limit resets, incoming runs fail with errors, and those errors may raise the automation’s error rate and lead to auto-disable.
The tightest number in practice is the per-automation trigger throttle of 250. Illustrative example: a batch action sets the status of 3,000 items at once, and one automation is set to fire on that status. That is 3,000 triggers in a short window, which is 12 times the throttle level and below the 4,500 block level. The automation would be slowed rather than refused, by monday’s definitions. Split the batch into 200-item groups and it stays under the throttle. The page does not say how much a throttled automation slows down.
What causes a rate limit to be reached?
monday.com names three causes, for automations and for integrations alike:
- A loop. An automation or integration that keeps retriggering itself or another recipe. monday warns about endless loops when you build one. An example from us: two automations that each change the column the other one watches.
- The API or webhooks triggering automations. A script that updates hundreds of items fires the matching automations for each update. Our daily API calls page covers the separate API quota.
- Batch actions. Selecting many items and changing a column can trigger many templates at once.
monday’s advice: work out why the automation fired that often in a minute, and change the workflow so it does not. Remove automations that are not completely necessary. If an automation is switched off after hitting the limit, toggle it back on from the board’s Automation Center. The full list of deactivation reasons is in why a monday.com automation is not running.
What is the monday.com complexity limit?
It is a second ceiling, for general activity such as moving items, batch actions and mirroring information. monday says it is calculated from the strain an action puts on its systems, resets every 60 seconds, and is defined per account, not per user, regardless of plan. The page does not publish the budget itself.
Heavier actions, as listed: creating subitems, using batch actions, mirroring from one board to another, duplicating a board, and creating items.
When the limit is hit you get a notification reading: “One of your automations has failed. Notice: Too many automatons were running at the same time. Click here to view it.” The action that caused it may be delayed or fully cancelled. Details appear under Automations Activity in the board’s Automation Center. monday recommends “smaller” actions, such as moving items manually or selecting fewer items in a batch, and checking for loops. A CRM board with many mirror columns, subitems and linked deals is exactly where heavy actions add up, as covered in why a mirror column is empty or limited.
Do integrations have different limits?
Yes. Integration rate limits are set by the third-party app’s API, not by monday.com, to prevent overload on that vendor’s servers. monday’s example is Outlook: Outlook limits how many actions monday.com can take in it per minute, such as sending too many emails at once. The causes match automations: loops, API or webhook triggers and batch actions.
monday’s options for integration limits are to identify what fires the integration so often, to enlarge your quota with the third-party app, and to split templates across accounts, for example several connected Outlook accounts so each carries less load. If the limit is reached you are notified, and if it keeps triggering it may run eventually with a delay, which shows in the automation’s Run history.
Is this the same as my monthly automation actions?
No. Monthly actions are a plan allowance that refreshes each month. Our monday CRM plan limits page lists them by plan, and how to create recurring tasks shows how a schedule uses them. Rate limits apply per minute on any plan. Dashboards, mirrors and API calls each have their own ceilings as well, and the CRM API rate limits comparison places monday’s API beside other CRMs.
When to get help
Get help when a bulk import, a sync script or a stage-change automation keeps tripping limits during business hours, or when a CRM has accumulated overlapping automations nobody has reviewed. A specialist can map every trigger, replace chains of automations with single recipes, batch API writes so they stay under the thresholds, and schedule heavy jobs outside peak hours. Book a short call or send a message, and see the monday.com service page for what aibrevo implements.
