How Much Does Close CRM SMS Cost?

Quick answer

Close passes SMS through at Twilio's price, rounded up to the nearest cent and billed per unit, not per message. US 10DLC registration adds a one-time $4 to $44 brand fee plus a $15 campaign fee and a monthly fee of $1.50 to $10. MMS in the US and Canada is $0.03 out and $0.01 in.

Key takeaways

  • Close bills SMS from a usage balance, separate from the seat price, at Twilio's SMS pricing rounded up to the nearest cent (Close help center, checked Oct 22, 2026).
  • Billing is per unit, not per message. An English-only unit holds 140 characters on Close's usage page, and emoji or foreign characters can drop a unit to as few as 33.
  • US MMS costs $0.03 outgoing and $0.01 incoming in the US and Canada.
  • US long-code texting needs A2P 10DLC registration. One-time fees are $4 for a low-volume brand or a sole proprietor and $44 for a standard brand, plus a $15 campaign fee, then $1.50, $2 or $10 per month.
  • The default monthly usage spending limit is $100, and calling and SMS are on for every user on every plan unless an admin restricts them.

Close does not price SMS as a plan feature. It bills texts from a usage balance at Twilio’s rate, rounded up to the nearest cent, and it counts units, not messages. US texting also carries one-time A2P 10DLC registration fees of $19 to $59 plus a small monthly fee. All figures come from Close’s help center and pricing page, checked on October 22, 2026.

How much does Close CRM SMS cost per text?

The page we read does not state a final Close per-unit price for US texts. Close’s variable usage costs article says SMS charges follow Twilio’s SMS pricing, rounded up to the nearest cent, and links to Twilio’s rates instead of listing them.

Twilio’s own US page shows what sits underneath. We read it on the same day:

Component (per US SMS segment) Outbound Inbound
Twilio base rate $0.0083 $0.0083
AT&T carrier fee $0.0035 $0.0035
T-Mobile carrier fee $0.0045 $0.0025
Verizon carrier fee $0.005 $0.007

Source: Twilio US SMS pricing page, checked Oct 22, 2026. Twilio says prices may change, and a $0.001 failed-message fee applies. Close adds its own rounding rule, so this is the cost basis, not a Close price quote.

Adding the base rate and a carrier fee gives roughly $0.012 to $0.013 per outbound segment before Close’s rounding. That arithmetic is ours. Confirm the number you will actually be charged by sending a few test texts and reading the Usage report.

Does Close bill per message or per unit?

Per unit. A text can be one unit or several, and Close’s usage page gives two sizes for an English-only unit and a much smaller one for special characters.

Source on Close’s help center Unit size stated
Variable usage costs page 140 characters for English letters only, as few as 33 with foreign characters or emoji
SMS and MMS guide GSM-7: 160 characters for one message, 153 per segment when concatenated. UCS-2 (any character outside GSM-7, including emoji): 70, then 67 per segment

Source: Close help center, “Variable Usage Costs” and “SMS and MMS”, checked Oct 22, 2026. The pages do not reconcile 140 and 160.

Close’s own example in the SMS guide: a 310 character template is billed as three SMS each time it is sent. A 1,000 character message, the maximum, would take about 7 units at 153 characters per segment. Our SMS segment counter shows encoding and segment counts for any text, though its cost line is for GoHighLevel and not for Close.

What does MMS cost in Close?

US and Canada MMS: $0.03 outgoing and $0.01 incoming. Close’s SMS guide says MMS works only on US, Canada and Australia numbers. Image-only messages can include up to 5 MB or 10 attachments, and non-image files are limited to 600 KB.

What other charges sit around SMS in Close?

  • Phone numbers: The pricing page says numbers start at about $1 per month. Cost depends on country and type, and the charge lands the moment a number is added or changed.
  • Calls: Most outbound calls run about $0.02 per minute, rounded up to the nearest minute and cent.
  • Seats: Each plan has two listed prices per user per month (Solo $19 and $9, Essentials $49 and $35, Growth $109 and $99, Scale $149 and $139). The page does not label which is monthly, and the lower number is most likely the annual rate. Our page on the Close free trial has more.
  • Supported SMS countries: The US, Canada, the UK, Germany, Australia, France, Belgium, Denmark, Israel, Puerto Rico, South Africa, Austria, Switzerland, Finland, the Netherlands, Poland and Sweden, per the SMS guide. Support for France is limited: Close’s carrier has no SMS-enabled French numbers available, and existing ones can be ported in.

How do you control Close SMS spend?

Open Settings, Billing, Usage. Your balance and Auto-Recharge settings are in the middle section. The default Monthly Spending Limit is $100 per month. Auto-Recharge sets the increment you are billed in, not a cap, and Close recommends 20 to 25 percent of your maximum monthly spend. Close’s balance article does not say what happens when the balance reaches zero. The Export Call and SMS Usage tool produces a per-SMS cost report using an API key, and it excludes phone rentals and add-ons.
