GreekVibes: an alumni network app for fraternities and sororities

GreekVibes keeps fraternity and sorority alumni connected to their chapters after graduation. We built the platform, with self-maintained member profiles, searchable chapter directories, mentorship matching, events and giving. It reached 62,000 alumni across 140 chapters in two years, raised directory accuracy from roughly 40% to 91% and lifted donation participation 44%. We built it in 6 weeks.

The challenge

Fraternity and sorority alumni had no dedicated place to stay connected and network with each other after they graduated.

Greek organisations build an unusually strong network and then lose most of it at graduation. Contacts go into a chapter spreadsheet kept by whoever holds the alumni role that year, student email addresses stop working once people leave, and within three years most of the list is dead.

What survives is a Facebook group that active members ignore and a national database several years out of date. Chapters ended up rebuilding the same list from scratch every few years.

Both founders had worked in alumni relations and knew the real failure was never enthusiasm. Alumni wanted to stay in touch. The infrastructure simply went stale faster than anyone could maintain it, and each fix produced another spreadsheet that would go stale too.

What we built

We built an alumni networking platform where members reconnect with their chapter, share opportunities and stay involved socially and professionally. Records stay current because each alumnus maintains their own.

Alumni-owned profiles

Each alumnus owns and updates their own profile instead of a chapter officer doing it. The record stays current because the person it describes has a reason to keep it that way.

Searchable chapter directories

Directories can be searched by graduation year, industry, city and employer, which makes the network useful for more than nostalgia.

Mentorship matcher

Current members are paired with alumni by field and stated interest, and a structured first-conversation prompt keeps matches from stalling after the introduction.

Events with RSVP and ticketing

Chapters and national organisations run events with RSVP and ticketing.

Giving campaigns and jobs board

Giving campaigns are tied to specific chapter needs with visible progress, and a jobs board carries roles posted by alumni.

Officer handover flow

When chapter officers change, a handover flow keeps institutional memory from being lost.

Screens and design system

The result

Lifting directory accuracy from about 40% to 91% is the result everything else rests on. Records people maintain themselves do not decay the way a committee spreadsheet does.

The donation increase was what national organisations cared about most, and it came almost entirely from being able to reach alumni at all, not from any change in how they fundraised.

Questions about this alumni networking app build

How do fraternities and sororities keep alumni contact records accurate?

GreekVibes lets each alumnus own and update their own profile instead of relying on a chapter officer's spreadsheet. Directory accuracy rose to 91%, against roughly 40% on the spreadsheets it replaced. Self-maintained records do not go stale the way committee-kept lists do, and an officer handover flow preserves chapter memory.

Can an alumni app increase donations for Greek organisations?

Chapters using GreekVibes saw alumni donation participation rise 44%. The gain came almost entirely from being able to reach alumni at all, not from a new fundraising approach. Giving campaigns are tied to specific chapter needs with visible progress, and event attendance ran 2.7x higher than email-only organising.

How long does it take to build an alumni networking app?

We built GreekVibes in 6 weeks. It includes alumni-owned profiles, chapter directories searchable by graduation year, industry, city and employer, a mentorship matcher, events with RSVP and ticketing, giving campaigns, a jobs board and an officer handover flow. It reached 62,000 alumni across 140 chapters in two years.
