GoHighLevel for Med Spa Memberships and Packages: What It Can and Cannot Do
Quick answer
For med spa memberships and packages, GoHighLevel can bill a membership, take a deposit and keep a card on file, but it has no documented package-session ledger. It will not count down a 6-pack or track treatment-level balances for you. Here is the native feature list, the gaps, and the design pattern that fills them.
Part of the guide: GoHighLevel setup for med spas
Key takeaways
- GoHighLevel bills recurring memberships natively: a recurring product, a subscription created from the contact record, a card on file, failed-payment retries, pause and resume, and coupons with a duration.
- It has no documented prepaid-package ledger. HighLevel's own idea board holds merged requests for session packs that auto-deduct per booking and show sessions used and remaining. Treat that as not shipped unless your account shows it.
- Gift cards are the closest native prepaid balance, but they hold a dollar balance, not treatment sessions, and HighLevel's gift card guide says they are not yet supported on Memberships.
- Deposits work at booking (flat amount or percentage), but the remaining balance sits in a draft invoice that staff must send, and no document we opened describes an automatic no-show fee.
- Federal law requires clear disclosure, express consent and a simple way to stop recurring online charges (15 USC 8403). The FTC's 2024 click-to-cancel rule was vacated, and the FTC opened a new rulemaking in March 2026. State auto-renewal laws vary, so get counsel to review your terms.
The problem: a med spa owner wants med spa memberships and packages (monthly plans, 6-packs and deposits) to run inside GoHighLevel, and needs to know which parts are built in and which parts she would have to build and police herself. The short answer is that billing is native and session tracking is not. This page sits under our GoHighLevel setup for med spas service page and decides where the line falls. The three blogs under it cover the how-to for each piece.
Checked on October 15, 2026 against HighLevel help articles on products, subscriptions, invoices, cards on file, calendar payments and gift cards, HighLevel’s idea board, the FTC’s negative option pages and 15 USC 8403.
Can GoHighLevel run med spa memberships and packages?
It can bill memberships, packages and deposits. It cannot count sessions. Everything that is a payment event is native. Everything that is a running balance of treatments is not documented in the HighLevel pages opened for this review.
| What the spa needs | Native in GoHighLevel? | What HighLevel documents | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly membership charge | Yes | Recurring product, subscription from the contact’s Payments tab, billing cycle taken from the product | Edits and pauses depend on the payment provider |
| Card on file | Yes | Add Card on File from the contact; cards are fetched from the provider, not stored by HighLevel | Deleting a card tied to an active subscription leaves no payment method |
| Failed-payment follow-up | Yes | Invoice sent to the client, retries on a set schedule, optional auto-cancel | Retry article lists NMI, Authorize.net and Square, not Stripe |
| Pause a member | Yes, where supported | Pause indefinitely or to a date; invoices set to Draft or voided | Not offered for every provider or status |
| Deposit at booking | Yes | Flat amount or percentage at booking, calendar-level | Balance is a draft invoice staff must send |
| Prepaid package with sessions used and remaining | No | Merged feature requests on the idea board | You would build and audit it yourself |
| Automatic no-show fee | No document found | Appointment Status trigger with a No-show filter exists | Charge decision and collection are manual |
| Member perks applied at checkout (tiered pricing, credits) | Not documented | Coupons with duration, product-level pricing | No member-tier price logic |
If your plan needs rows 6 to 8 to work without a person watching, GoHighLevel alone is the wrong tool for those parts. Our setup page covers how the rest of a med spa build fits together.
Is GoHighLevel med spa membership software?
Partly. It is a CRM with a payments module, so it covers the billing and the messaging around a membership: the charge, the failed-payment notice, the renewal reminder, the win-back after a cancellation. A dedicated med spa platform such as Boulevard, Mangomint or Zenoti is where credits, member pricing and treatment history usually sit. We did not audit those vendors’ membership features for this page, so check each one’s current documentation. Our Zenoti vs GoHighLevel comparison and the booking software integration page cover where the two sides meet.
A hybrid is common and sensible: the booking system owns what the member can redeem, GoHighLevel owns how they hear about it. The mistake is letting both systems bill, which doubles charges and doubles disputes.
What can GoHighLevel bill natively for a membership?
Four building blocks, all under the Payments menu.
- A product with recurring pricing. In Payments > Products, set the pricing Type to Recurring, pick the billing period, and optionally add a trial, a setup fee and a number of payments. HighLevel’s product guide says recurring pricing suits memberships and retainers.
- A way to sell it. The same guide lists the online store, a funnel order form, a payment link, an invoice (the invoice type must match the product’s one-time or recurring pricing) and a form with the Payment element. The provider table shows which processors work where.
- A subscription on the contact. From Contacts > the contact > Payments > Actions > Create Subscription, you choose the recurring product, start date, quantity and coupon, and attach a payment method for AutoPay.
- A card on file. Add it under the contact’s Payments tab so renewals do not depend on the client paying an invoice.
The step-by-step version, including statuses and what to do when a card fails, is in how to bill med spa memberships in GoHighLevel. For which processor to connect first, see our answers on Stripe and PayPal; they are not repeated here.
What does GoHighLevel not do for med spa packages?
It does not keep a session ledger. A ledger would record that a client bought six laser sessions, show one used and five left, deduct a session when she is marked as having attended, and warn her before the package expires. We found no HighLevel help article that does this.
What did turn up is HighLevel’s idea board entry titled Appointment packages. It is a merged thread of customer requests, including one that asks for each booking to auto-deduct from a balance with a display like sessions used and sessions remaining, and one that asks for a multi-treatment spa package. A request thread is not a shipped feature. If your account shows something newer, trust your account over this page.
The closest native prepaid tool is gift cards. They carry a dollar balance with an expiry date set on the product, can be sold from checkouts including calendars, and redeem against supported payments. They do not track treatments, and HighLevel’s guide says they are not yet supported on Memberships.
A design pattern for packages (our approach, not a HighLevel feature)
If you stay in GoHighLevel, build the ledger yourself and treat it as a record that staff verify against the booking system:
- Create contact custom fields such as package name, sessions purchased, sessions used and package expiry date.
- Sell the package as a one-time product, or as a recurring product with a number of payments if you finance it.
- On each visit, set the appointment to Showed, then update the custom field. HighLevel documents the Appointment Status trigger and an Update Contact Field action. Its action list also shows Custom Code, Webhook and Google Sheets actions, which is where counting logic would live. We did not verify an arithmetic action, so test the decrement before you trust it.
- Send the renewal or upsell message from a workflow that reads the field.
The pattern fails quietly. A missed status change, a reschedule or a refund leaves the count wrong, and the client sees the wrong number in a text. The full build, with the failure points, is in how to track med spa prepaid packages in GoHighLevel.
What about deposits and no-show fees?
Deposits are native, fees are manual. In calendar settings you can charge upfront, or collect a card on file without charging. With partial payment on, you set a flat amount or a percentage of the total at booking, and HighLevel’s deposit article says the remaining balance becomes a draft invoice that staff must send, with no notice to the client. Partial payments do not work with recurring calendars.
For a no-show, HighLevel gives you the status and the trigger, not an automatic charge. The policy wording, the fee amount and the decision to charge all stay with you. The card-network and processor side, including what Stripe says you must disclose, is in med spa no-show deposits and cancellation fees in GoHighLevel. The reminder workflow that prevents many no-shows in the first place is in our appointment reminder and no-show workflow guide.
What cancellation and auto-renewal rules apply to a membership?
Two layers apply, and neither is legal advice here.
Federal. 15 USC 8403 (the Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act) makes it unlawful to charge a consumer for goods or services sold online through a negative option feature unless the seller (1) clearly and conspicuously discloses all material terms before obtaining billing information, (2) obtains express informed consent before charging, and (3) provides simple mechanisms to stop recurring charges. A membership that renews on a card is a negative option feature in ordinary terms. The FTC’s Negative Option Rule page and its March 11, 2026 press release describe the status: the 2024 click-to-cancel rule was vacated, and the FTC issued an advance notice of proposed rulemaking in March 2026 asking whether to amend the rule. So there is no click-to-cancel rule in force to build against today. Check the FTC page again before you publish terms, because this is moving.
State. Many states have their own automatic renewal laws, with different notice and cancellation rules. We could not open a primary state statute for this page, so we are not summarizing any. Look up the states where you sell, or ask your attorney. Med spas also sit under state medical-board rules for anything involving a licensed procedure.
Build the cancellation path so it is as easy as the signup path. A client who cannot cancel in a minute will dispute the charge instead, and the billing blog shows how to wire it.
Should the membership live in GoHighLevel or in the booking system?
| Your situation | Recommended home for the membership | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Members pay monthly and get a standing perk, no credits | GoHighLevel | Billing, reminders and win-back are native |
| Members get credits or discounted services at checkout | Booking or POS system | Credits and tier pricing are not documented in GoHighLevel |
| Clients buy 3 to 10 session packages | Booking system, with status synced | No native ledger; a hand-built one is error-prone |
| Spa sells only deposits and prepaid gift value | GoHighLevel | Calendar deposits and gift cards are native |
| Spa wants one bill, one login, one record | Booking system | Two billing systems create duplicate charges |
This table is our recommendation from the documented feature set, not a result from any clinic.
How much work is a memberships setup?
For a single location, plan on the product and price structure, the subscription flow, a card-on-file step at signup, failed-payment and cancellation workflows, and testing in Stripe test mode. The calendar deposit is a short job on its own. A hand-built package ledger adds design, front-desk training and audits. aibrevo scopes this as part of a med spa build and works with its partner company autoesta, which delivers GoHighLevel builds. For pricing and what a full build includes, see the setup page, then talk to us about your build.
Founder’s note, Alpit Patel. I see memberships billed from two systems more often than you would think. My rule: the booking system owns anything that counts treatments or applies member credits. GoHighLevel handles billing and the messages around it, because the HighLevel help pages we reviewed show no native session ledger. Never let both systems bill the same member. That doubles charges and disputes. If you build a package count by hand in custom fields, test the decrement and audit it against the booking system, because a missed status change or a refund leaves the number quietly wrong. I founded aibrevo in San Francisco in 2021, and through autoesta I have overseen 320+ GoHighLevel implementation projects across med spas, real estate, healthcare, dental, home services, SaaS and professional-services clients in the US, UK and UAE. - How to Bill Med Spa Memberships in GoHighLevel, Step by Step Blog
To bill med spa memberships in GoHighLevel, create a recurring product under Payments, add a card on file to the contact, then create a subscription from the contact's Payments tab. Set failed-payment retries, decide how to pause and cancel, and disclose the renewal terms before the first charge. - Med Spa No-Show Deposits and Cancellation Fees in GoHighLevel Blog
For med spa no show deposits, GoHighLevel can take a deposit at booking (flat or percentage) or save a card on file without charging it. The balance becomes a draft invoice staff must send, and no document we opened describes an automatic no-show fee. Disclose the policy before you save the card, per Stripe's guidance. - How to Track Med Spa Prepaid Packages in GoHighLevel (No Native Ledger) Blog
To track med spa prepaid packages in GoHighLevel, know the gap first: it has no documented ledger for prepaid treatment packages: it cannot deduct a session per visit or show sessions remaining. You can sell the package natively and track usage with contact custom fields and workflows, a design pattern that needs audits. Gift cards, installments and a booking-system ledger are the alternatives.
