Key takeaways

  • Bitrix24's import wizard takes CSV files, so an Excel workbook has to be saved as CSV first. Contacts are imported from CRM, Customers, Contacts, Settings, then Import custom CSV data.
  • The CSV template from Bitrix24 uses a semicolon as the field delimiter. Excel can change it, so you set the Field delimiter on the upload screen to match what is really in your file.
  • Contacts link to companies by name, and the names must match exactly. Import companies first, then contacts, then deals.
  • Duplicate handling has four options: Allow, Replace with new data, Merge (fills empty fields only) and Skip, which gives you a list of the skipped records.
  • Only administrators and users with the right permissions can import. The help article states no maximum file size or row count.

To import contacts from Excel into Bitrix24, save the sheet as a CSV file, open CRM, then Customers, then Contacts, click the Settings gear and choose Import custom CSV data. Download Bitrix24’s template, match your columns to it, upload the file, set the field delimiter, check the field mapping and pick a duplicate option. If contacts must be linked to companies, import the companies first. The steps and field names below come from the Bitrix24 help center, checked on October 22, 2026.

How do you import an Excel file into Bitrix24 CRM?

Bitrix24’s import wizard works on CSV files. Its help article states that the uploaded file must be in CSV format, so an Excel workbook (.xlsx or .xls) is saved as CSV before you start. Only administrators and users with the necessary permissions can import.

  1. In Excel, use Save As and pick a CSV format. Keep one header row.
  2. In Bitrix24 open CRM, expand Customers and select Contacts.
  3. Click the Settings (gear) icon and select Import custom CSV data.
  4. Download the template. It contains every field from the CRM item form. Copy your columns into it, or rename your headers to match.
  5. Upload the CSV and set the Field delimiter to the character your file uses. Click Next.
  6. Check the field mapping. Bitrix24 fields are on the left and file columns on the right. Click Select or Edit to fix a wrong or empty match. Click Next.
  7. Choose how to handle duplicates (below), then run the import. When it finishes, click Close, or Import new file to load another.

Larger imports take longer. The help article does not state a maximum file size, row count or record count, so test with a small file first. For other CRMs’ limits, see our CRM import limits comparison.

What is the right delimiter for the Bitrix24 CSV import?

Use whichever character is really in your file, and set it on the upload screen. The template Bitrix24 provides uses a semicolon, and the help article warns that editing software may change it. Open the saved file in a text editor and look at the first line.

A comma-separated file with the delimiter set to semicolon puts everything in one column, which shows up immediately on the mapping screen. If a field holds several values, such as two phone numbers, Bitrix24’s article on contact and company details says to separate them with commas, so quote those cells when your delimiter is also a comma.

Import companies first, then contacts. Bitrix24’s article on importing and linking companies, contacts and deals sets the rules:

  • Items can link only to items that already exist in Bitrix24.
  • Linking is done by name, and company names and contact names must match exactly.
  • The order is companies, then contacts, then deals.

For the company import, go to CRM, Customers, Companies, click Settings and choose Import companies. Company name is required. In the contacts file, type the company name in the Company column and confirm it maps to the Company field. After importing, open a contact and check the Company field, or open the Dependencies tab. If items are not linked, the article lists three checks: the upload order, exact name matches, and the field mapping.

Item Where in CRM What to put in the link column
Companies Customers, Companies, Import companies Company name (required)
Contacts Customers, Contacts, Import custom CSV data Company: the company name
Deals Deals, Import deals Company: the name. Contact: first and last name

How do you handle duplicate contacts during a Bitrix24 import?

At the duplicate step you choose one of four options and the fields that count as a match, such as phone number or name.

Option What it does
Allow Imports everything in the file, including records that already exist
Replace with new data Overwrites CRM values with the values in your file
Merge Fills only the empty fields of existing records
Skip (do not import) Leaves duplicates out and gives you a list of them afterwards

If your CRM already holds good data, Merge or Skip are the options that cannot damage it. Replace with new data is right only when the file is the more trusted source. Duplicate matching is only as good as the file, which is why a pass of data cleaning before the import pays off.

How do you fix common Bitrix24 contact import problems?

Symptom Cause Fix
All values sit in one column Field delimiter does not match the file Check the separator in a text editor and select it
A field is empty on the mapping screen Header name does not match a Bitrix24 field Click Select or Edit and choose the column, or rename the header
Contacts imported but have no company Company imported after contacts, or names differ Import companies first and match names exactly, then re-import with the Replace or Merge option
No import option under Settings Missing permission Ask an administrator for CRM import rights
Addresses missing after import Full address placed only in the composite Address column Use the separate address columns (street, city, postal code, region, country) and turn on Import details
Chats linked to the wrong contacts (data moved between accounts) Messenger IDs imported from another account Delete the columns starting with “imol” before import and choose Replace with new data at Duplicate control

One more case from the help center: importing closed deals can overwrite the original Close date with the upload date. The article’s workaround uses a custom date field and an automation rule that copies it into the system field.

Are there limits on a Bitrix24 import, and what about the Free plan?

The import articles give no file size or row limit. Two plan limits still apply. On the Free plan, search works only while you hold 1,000 or fewer deals, contacts or companies of each type, so a large import can leave you unable to search, as covered in what the Bitrix24 Free plan includes. Basic raises that figure to 100,000 each. To check a CSV before upload, our CRM import file checker can catch blank headers and bad dates.

When to get help

A single sheet of contacts is a short job. Help pays off when you are moving a whole Bitrix24 account: contacts, companies, deals, history and custom fields with links intact, or when the destination is another CRM. Bitrix24 is quoted per project and aibrevo does not implement it, but migrating Bitrix24 data into Salesforce, HubSpot, Dynamics 365, Zoho CRM, Pipedrive, monday.com, Airtable or GoHighLevel is a common request. Book a short call or send a message, and read the HubSpot service page to see how a data migration is scoped.

FAQs

How do I import contacts from Excel into Bitrix24?

Save the sheet as CSV. In Bitrix24 go to CRM, expand Customers, open Contacts, click Settings and choose Import custom CSV data. Download the template, fill it in, upload the CSV, set the Field delimiter, check that every file column maps to the right field, choose a duplicate option and finish the import.

Can Bitrix24 import an .xlsx file directly?

The import steps in Bitrix24's help center say the file must be in CSV format and do not list Excel formats. Save your workbook as CSV first. A marketplace app named Import from Excel exists for .xls and .xlsx files, but it is a third-party product, so check its reviews and permissions before installing it.

What delimiter does the Bitrix24 CSV import use?

The template Bitrix24 provides uses a semicolon, and the upload screen has a Field delimiter setting. Editing software can swap semicolons for commas, so open the file in a plain text editor to see which character it contains, then select that character. A wrong delimiter puts every value in one column.

How do I link contacts to companies when importing into Bitrix24?

Import the companies first. Then, in the contacts file, type the company name in the Company field. Bitrix24 links items by name and says company names and contact names must match exactly. After the import, open a contact and check that the Company field is filled, or look at the Dependencies tab.

How does Bitrix24 handle duplicates during import?

You choose one of four options. Allow imports everything, including existing records. Replace with new data overwrites CRM values with file values. Merge fills only empty CRM fields. Skip does not import duplicates and gives you a list of them. You also pick the fields that define a duplicate, such as phone number or name.

Who can import contacts into Bitrix24?

Only Bitrix24 administrators and users with the required permissions can import CRM items. If you do not see the import option under the CRM Settings gear, ask an administrator to check your CRM access permissions. The help article does not state a maximum file size or number of rows for an import.

Why did my Bitrix24 import put everything in one column?

The Field delimiter on the upload screen does not match the character in your file. The Bitrix24 template uses a semicolon, but Excel and other editors may save with a comma. Open the CSV in a text editor, check the separator, re-upload and select the matching delimiter before clicking Next.

Can I import multiple phone numbers or emails per contact in Bitrix24?

Bitrix24's help article on contact and company details says to separate multiple values in one field, such as several phone numbers, with commas. Note that this also affects delimiter choice: if your file uses commas as the field delimiter, wrap those cells in quotes or save with a semicolon delimiter.

What order should I import Bitrix24 companies, contacts and deals in?

Companies first, then contacts, then deals. Bitrix24 says items can link only to items that already exist, and linking is done by name. Deals take the company name and the contact's first and last name. Existing deals cannot be updated by import: a deal with a matching name is imported again as a new one.

How do I undo a Bitrix24 import?

The import articles we read do not describe an undo step or a way to roll back a finished import. The safe approach is to test with a few rows first and use the Skip or Merge duplicate options, which do not overwrite. If you already imported wrongly, ask a Bitrix24 administrator or support before bulk deleting.
